Do you have these prospects that are not developing signed or no? Are they playing ?

I wait a year and sign them, and these are all guys with elite, medium potential, and the only guy to develop was Heiskanen.

Also, after making the conference finals and finishing second in the division, my team got gutted, because they wanted to win now and my team wasn't trending in the right direction despite gradual growth every season, lol.

EA messes up the simplest ****.

Is franchise mode still garbage or have they fixed the issues that make it unplayable after a few seasons in?

What I want to know, is if you trade for a goalie, will they still wear their old teams mask for the rest of time or will they finally be given a default mask with their new teams colours.

One of my biggest gripes that always irks me when I play.

its very hit or miss. Current NHL goalies change with teams. However rookies moving the the AHL or free agents signed tend to be a mixed bag.

I persoanlly like playing it further down in seasons because most bad contracts are gone and teams dont have as many cap issues. However some teams never go out of there way to get better unless its by accident. If thats what you are referring to then yes that is still in gm mode. I watched a team not sign a goalie in free agency or trade for one for 6 seasons. They litterally had AHL goalies in their 30's starting for the team.

Is scouting still pointless? Is development still weird? Is free agency and resigning players still not realistic?

None of those things changed. You can resign players during the year however only once.

For example you have a 30 year old depth player he is doing third line stuff on a 1 year deal. You resign him to another 1 year deal. You can't ever resign him again during the year. After that second your you have to wait until the resign period to sign him.

Drafted an elite enforcer today. Can’t remember what round or draft as I was simming. Was a 46 overall out of the draft. After his first season he was 69 overall and after his second season he became 84. I’ll play out his third season. Can’t wait to use him.

Soon done with the first season in Franchise Mode with the Canadiens. Wanted to redo the 2017 draft so started with the 31 Expansion Team option. As for the season I do sim most of it (around 75%) but play important games against division rivals and Saturday home games (regardless of opponent).

Here are some events from the season:

** VGK selects Jordie Benn from MTL in the Expansion Draft
** MTL selects Timothy Liljegren in the 1st round of the Entry Draft
** MTL resigns Carey Price (7 years x 7.5 million) and Alex Galchenyuk (4 years)
** Radulov signs with Nashville, Shattenkirk with Edmonton, and Oshie with Rangers
** Habs bargainbin hunt yields Franson, Dominic Moore, and Beauchemin (all 1 year deals)
** Habs season started terribly and October ended with being below .500
** Julien creates a 1st line of Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Drouin
** Habs improve to .500 at the end of November
** December and January go extremely well including one 7 game win streak
** From February to the end of the season Habs maintain consistent .650 pace and battle with Lightning for the division title.
** Carey Price numbers: .935 Sv% - 2.15 GAA - 6 Shutouts. Montoya provides good backup numbers in his 20 games (10 wins, .925 Sv%)
** Nearing the trade deadline Habs make two deals: Byron to VGK for Beagle. Hudon, 2nd and a 5th to NYI for de Haan, Chimera and a 4th.
** Habs season ends with a 46-26-10 record finishing 2nd in the division behind TBL.
** Drouin leads the team in points (70) and goals (30). Positive suprises were the second line of Lehkonen-Plekanec-Gallagher with both Lehkonen and Gallagher surpassing the 20 goal mark.

In the playoff I play around 3-4 games per series and sim the rest.

Playoff 1st round
West: MIN vs. CHI, LAK vs. SJS, EDM vs. ARZ, ANA vs. NSH
East: TBL vs. PHI, MTL vs. OTT, NYR vs. FLA, PIT vs. WSH

Montreal faced a tough first round opponent in Ottawa Senators. The turning point was Game 5 in Montreal were Ottawa lead 2-1 going into the 3rd. With 90 seconds remaining Gallagher scored to tie the game. In OT Drouing scored 10 minutes in to give the Habs a 3-2 series lead and in the next game Habs comfortably took a 2-0 lead and held on to win 3-1 and the series 4-2.

Major upset of the 1st round was Florida defeating New York Rangers (Luongo had a .95 something sv%). Washington Capitals beat the Penguins finally, even after losing the first two games of the series.

Playoffs 2nd round:
West: EDM vs. SJS, CHI vs. NSH
East: MTL vs. TBL, WSH vs. FLA

The Lightning proved to be an easier opponent than the Senators. Mostly due to goaltending as Vasilevskiy had a tendency to let in a soft goal here and there. While, in the Ottawa series Price had not that great of a sv% (.910) in this series he was key and his Sv% improved to .932 after the series was over. Montreal takes the series 4-1.

Playoffs 3rd round:
West: SJS vs. CHI
East: MTL vs. WSH

It's looking grim at the moment. Series started with a split at the Bell Centre but Habs have now lost both games in Washington and are down 3-1 in the series. The CHI-SJS series is tied 2-2.

Does anyone know if franchise mode still has the usual 25 year limit?

I miss the days of NHL 2K where you could play like 100 seasons. Was great for simmers.

yes 25 years, if I could ever figure out how to construct a team that could make it to the playoffs I'd be a little happier lol 25 years of missing the playoffs thankfully I have gm firing off or I'd never get to year 25

RESIGNING: Rangers Re-sign F Conor Sheary to 3 Year Deal

IMG_BD38C0-E53C3E-164E30-51564A-282F5B-FD46DE.jpg

The Rangers have re-signed left wing Conor Sheary to a 3 year deal with an AAV of $4.125M. So now that’s another name off the list of players the Rangers have to re-sign, but the list is still pretty long and cash is still tight, so we’ll see what happens between now and free agency.

2018 NHL Entry Draft

Trades:

sjm-sharks-1221-02.jpg

:rangers acquire: Timo Meier, 2018 1st (#24 OA), 2019 3rd
:sharks acquire: J.T. Miller, Brendan Smith, Jesper Fast, 2018 1st (#31 OA)

Analysis: This was a cap move. Simple as that. Smith is making $4M per year over the next 4 years while DeAngelo can come up and fill that spot for cheaper. Fast was scratched for the last 21 games of the playoffs and makes almost $2M. Miller just got extended, but with Zibanejad, Galchenyuk, Buchnevich, and Lias Andersson at center, there’s no need for him anymore. The Rangers get a great prospect in Timo Meier, move up 7 spots in the 1st round, and pick up a 3rd next year, while San Jose gets 3 players who can hopefully help them get back to the top of the standings where they believe they belong.

:rangers acquire: 2019 2nd, 2019 3rd

Analysis: So Smith traded, De Haan leaving in FA, and now Yandle dealt as well. That’s 3 defenseman gone totalling over $10M in cap last season, with Anthony DeAngelo as the only seemingly NHL-ready defenseman to make the jump to the NHL. Something’s gotta give. I expect the Rangers to be in hard on some free agent defenseman now.

Chris Terry|RW|29|76|Exact Bottom 6 F|1 Year/$950K AAV|N/A

Rangers FA Analysis: The Rangers pick up the biggest fish in free agency, which has happened quite often since the early 2000’s. John Carlson will play on the top pair most likely with Ryan McDonagh. Brady Skjei and Kevin Shattenkirk will round out an all-American top 4 on the back end. Markov will slot in on the bottom pair with DeAngelo. Frankie Vatrano will battle in camp for a spot in the lineup, but I believe he will end up as either the 3rd or 4th line left wing. Jokinen will be the 4th line right wing in all likelihood, while Terry could battle for a spot or be a healthy scratch, or maybe even play in the AHL (you may remember him winning the regular season point scoring title in the AHL last season).

SIGNING: Rangers Sign Free Agent Oskar Sundqvist

oskar.jpg

The New York Rangers announced today that they have come to an agreement with free agent forward Oskar Sundqvist on a 1 year, $650K contract. Sundqvist was a Penguins draft pick in 2012 and spent last season in the St. Louis Blues organization (0 points in 15 NHL games, 40 points in 68 AHL games). Sundqvist (I’d have to imagine) could possibly compete for a bottom line role or for the 13th forward spot. If not, he’ll be good AHL depth in case of injuries.

BREAKING: Rangers Announce 18 Out of 21 Roster Spots Secured

The New York Rangers today announced their first set of players who would not make the team out of preseason. It includes: G Brandon Halverson, D Tommy Hughes, D Sean Day, D Ryan Graves, W Henrik Samuelsson, W Dan Catenacci, C Filip Chytil, and C Sebastian Repo. The Rangers also announced the following spots were locked up and the tentative lineup looks like this…

Sheary-Zibanejad-Zuccarello
Buchnevich-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Vesey-L. Andersson-Meier
Jokinen-TBD-TBD

Skjei-Carlson
McDonagh-Shattenkirk
DeAngelo-Markov

Lundqvist
Sheshtyorkin

So that means (assuming they sign a free agent for the 4th line center role or acquire one via trade and Calle Andersson gets the nod as 7th D) that Sundqvist, Puempel, Vatrano, Terry, Kosmachuk, Gropp, and Tambellini (all the players still remaining who haven’t been sent down or locked into a spot yet) are competing for one 4th line right wing spot and a 13th forward role. These last few days of preseason should be fun to watch.

TRADE ALERT: Rangers, Sabres Make Preseason Swap

Girgensons5.jpg

The New York Rangers announced today that they have traded winger Matt Puempel and a 4th round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for center Zemgus Girgensons. Girgensons is 24 and had 30 points in the NHL last season. Puempel didn’t see much NHL time until he became a regular in the lineup during the postseason due to his strong performance.

Analysis: Puempel was one of the guys in the 7-way preseason battle for the last spot in the Rangers regular lineup. Now there’s one less as he gets moved to a team where he’ll have more of a chance. It also opens the door for someone like Vatrano or Terry to make a much better run at that spot. The Rangers get that 4th line center they need since Buchnevich works better on the wing. Girgensons is a former 1st round pick and is still only 24, but his progression hasn’t been great, so Buffalo was willing to give him up for pretty cheap.

BREAKING: Decision Time for Rangers Management

The Rangers today sent Scott Kosmachuk, Ryan Gropp, and Adam Tambellini down to Hartford, presumably ending their hope of making the team. That leaves Sundqvist, Vatrano, and Terry to compete for the last 2 spots (4th line right wing and healthy scratch). The Rangers are expected to make that decision later today since they have their final preseason game tonight against Carolina, and Rangers GM Chris Drury likes to have the full team on the ice for the last preseason game to have some time to gel a bit. So let’s look at those 3 players and their preseason performances…

Frank Vatrano ----- 6 GP, 0 Goals, 3 Assists, 3 Points, +1, 2 PIM
Chris Terry ----- 6 GP, 2 Goals, 0 Assists, 2 Points, Even, 4 PIM
Oskar Sundqvist ----- 4 GP, 0 Goals, 1 Assist, 1 Point, -3, 5 PIM

So based on their numbers, I’d say Oskar Sundqvist is probably the odd man out here. He has less points (yes I know he has less games played) and has a worse plus/minus and more penalty minutes.

The tough call is now whether to put Vatrano as the 4th line winger and Terry as the 13th forward or vice versa. I think since Vatrano is the younger player they’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and start him, but we’ll have to see.

Pre-Season Review

Record: 4-2-1 (9 points)
Rank: 1st in Metropolitan Division
Point Leader: Pavel Buchnevich (4-5-9)

Analysis: Pretty good showing from the youngsters this time around. Some tough decisions means there was good competition. Terry did well, Sundqvist was alright, and I liked what I saw from Gropp and Tambellini. Chytil also impressed me as did Sean Day.

I'm always editing all the teams manually, and so I was dissappointed when I realized all rosters and player overalls just roll back to the original when you play expansion mode.

Guess I'll just have to play classic GM mode with 31 teams.

I didn't do much for editing yet as I'm waiting for the roster update to finish up first. Hate spending hours just to get an update and have it delete it all.

As far as I can tell, choosing roster isn't an option before you start expansion mode. Hopefully EA patches this eventually.

You select the active roster under the new Rosters tile and that is supposed to be the roster it uses when you start Franchise mode. However, as you noticed if you choose 32 team expansion mode it does not use the active roster. It also creates a new custom roster for you from the active roster and makes that the new active roster.

I have a feeling this will never get fixed and that's disappointing. In order for this to work there would have to be expansion draft logic programmed. Essentially an entirely new A.I. to make decisions on which players to protect during the draft based on the active roster. Maybe there is a chance they can utilize the current trading A.I. somehow but I doubt it. So don't hold your breath on this being addressed. I was looking forward to editing the rosters all crazy and seeing who the CPU protected too  silly me.

The biggest let down was when I got to the draft and realized after having spent a good 2 hours entirely customizing both my NHL and AHL teams .

Worst thing about the game is how every prospect drafted after the top-10 is 54-58 overall. Takes until they're 24 before they're NHL ready.

Honestly they do have a problem with prospects but players drafted after the 3rd round have almost no chance of making it to the NHL so i kinda get it. However the top 5 should all be NHL ready or a point or two away from it. The next 15 should be NHL ready after 1 year. After that it should take 3-4 years to make the NHL if they are going to. I still have a problem where 1st over all picks are years away from being NHL ready. I am like 8 years deep into franchise and the 1st overall was a 70 over all defense defender. He didnt hit 78 for 3 years.

I guess my main problem is that players drafted after 10th. An 18th overall pick shouldn't take six years to make it to the show. They should be high-60's or low 70's and then their growth from there should determine how successful they will be.
