So how about if NJ brings back Green and bumps Rogalski up to associate coach and he trains all the goalies throughout the organization? Would that optimize the team to have the best chance of success? I think you may have touched on Green as the interim coach once or twice but I can't recall.
i am fully onboard.

if things take an UNexpected negative turn we can still scapegoat bleed and relief him from his duties. those f-bombs are easy replaceable.

we just have to keep our asses covered.

bleedGREEN must go !

I really think Berube would be a mistake. I am not saying our guys don't need some accountability, I just think Berube might be going SO far the other way that it might be detrimental

While this is kind of most sports in general, the NHL is really hilarious wherein its almost just the same guys that get rotated among jobs. At least in the NFL and NBA, at least 3-4 assistant coaches become head coaches like every offseason. In the NHL, it seems like the same 40-45 guys vying for the 32 jobs.

Speaking of retreads. I wouldn't be opposed to Deboer if Dallas were to make a change if they lose gm7
I feel like we’re still a couple years off from someone like him. Outside of his first job in Florida, he’s been hired by teams with older players than our best players.

Not way older than our best players, but a couple of years. Kovalchuk and Parise were both late 20s and we had a still really good 35 year old Elias. The Sharks had guys like Pavelski and Burns who were already 31 when he took over. And then Thornton and Marleau were both like 36. Even Couture was 26. I guess the Vegas core weren’t too old, but they must have still been late 20s when he took over.

Jason Robertson and Heiskanen were already the best players for Dallas when he took over, but they have so many older and established guys well into their 30s.

I think we’d be potentially the fastest team he’s ever coached. But he also feels like someone that would rather take the job of a team that’s already a perennial playoff team. Which we are not yet.

Is he going to have many other options?
Yes. Option #1 if he gets let go is to not coach next year and get paid by the Leafs. Better to wait a year than go to a team that he will never win with. Could cost him a better opportunity.

Also, what do you think it takes to get on the "coaching carousel"? He makes the playoffs every year and his star players perform for him. There is also no indication he has any problem with the GMs he has worked with.

Wasn't covered yet but this morning ( Friday morning ) on the 32 thoughts podcast two quick tidbits about the Devils from Friedman " Ottawa and New Jersey are the teams everyone is saying to watch for, we'll see if there are others " - On Berube.

" I think, the Devils are among the teams who have interviewed Todd McLlellan "
I would hope they do their due diligence, but I can’t see Fitzgerald going with eirher.

But they definitely should wait and see how the first round unfolds. If Montgomery blows another 3-1 series lead, does he survive in Boston?

I honestly wouldn’t mind him or DeBoer over some of the other candidates. At the very least, it gives Fitz some leverage if his target is truly Sullivan.

I don't care what anyone says.

Until Rod is re-signed to Carolina or some other team that is not us, I'm rooting for the above.

I also don't care that this is now old news (tweet).

I'd rather talk about Rod than friggin' Berube as Head Coach.

My one big strike on Keefe and it's a pretty big one, the fact that he took until Toronto were down 3 games to 1 to even start Woll. Even starting the series with Samsonov was highly questionable. He was so bad he got waived and sent to the minors in December, then after having a bit of (market correction) an uptick in play, he was starting to melt down again at the very end of the season. We saw it in one of the games against us.

Just like Evason with the Fleury over Gustavsson stuff in 2022-2023. That's my one issue with Evason.

Unless you can prove this is management making these calls more than the coach. I'm not sure it was in Minnesota, as Gustavsson starting playing more games immediately after Hynes took over, until he got hurt and then at the end of the year both were struggling and Fleury got more starts than he probably would have under Hynes if it were the year before when Gustavsson was hot.

I feel like the loser of tonight's game is getting fired. It seems Keefe might be on the outs anyway and could even be fired if they lose in the 2nd round. Montgomery might get GANKED after the Bruins blowing two straight 3-1 series leads.

Your one big strike on Keefe is that he’s not Green.

So if Boston blows this, Montgomery might get fired and we should be all over that. If Toronto blows this, Keefe might get fired which starts a domino effect that gets Sullivan tossed and Fitz getting him

I like Keefe. If Fitz will sign top 4 LD and depth player, Keefe will have better more talented defense and better rostr here. I was very unlucky with Toronto and half of the cap for 4 players. He is still young and already has good experience of solid game and bunch of mistakes.
Of course woukd be great to sign Roddy B or Mikey Van Sally.

I think the more likely scenario is Dubas wanted to make a change to one of the assistants to get to the standard split between GM/HC in terms of “their guys”. And thought if Toronto lost and Keefe shakes loose, he might be able to get him as an assistant coach who is also waiting in the wings if things go south with sully in the future. But also knowing if keefe is not an option, he has a list of other preferred candidates to fill that spot.

Keefe has 2 years left on his current contract at a HC rate. I doubt he takes an assistant job with a siinking ship like PITT

New Jereey is in good stead wrt coaching based on that first round. You have to think Keefe to Pittsburgh will be a thing and Sullivan, who has 1 foot out the door, will head to New Jersey. There are some nice secondary options as well.
