Something is going on. We just recalled Letteri from Hartford. This puts us over the 23 man limit.

Additionally as another Rangers poster pointed out...

If Kreider is coming back tomorrow, They'd have to clear not 1 but 2 spots.

They must feel like they're pretty close on both Grabner and Nash.

Mod Edit:

And now from LeBrun:

Grabner on Pittsburgh would almost be unfair ... all that speed ... ffffff

I really, really do not want him here in PIT, so I really hope he goes elsewhere. Especially when hearing the asking price. Can't stress that enough. I think he'd be a terrible fit for how they want to roll their lines and how their lines are constructed.

Teams aren't going to be giving up a 1st for Grabner in a buyers market. He'll likely bring back a 2nd and a decent prospect, that's much more reasonable to expect for him.
The guy scored 27 last season and already has 25 this year in 59 games with no pp time and playing with mostly bottom 6 players. The guy is a defensive beast aswell. Some serious underrating going on.

10-12 teams in on Grabner and with 25 goals with 20 some games left so he's a good bet to hit 30 and maybe even go further. All even strength. And he penalty kills but that just means he's terrible. We'll be lucky to get a 7th in 2025 for him.
He's a fantastic PK'er and always keeps teams on their heels because of his speed.

if Eaves cant get a 1st (albeit conditional) Grabner can.

PK specialist is pretty damn important just like PP specialists are

He found his game the last few years. He goes under the radar often. Whoever gets him will be getting a fantastic player for the playoff run. A first rounder is not a terrible offer for Grabner.

He's a good player, but you're not getting a 1st for a good bottom-6 player (which is what I've seen him described by Rangers fans to be). Something equal in value to a 1st? That's more reasonable, but I can't see any teams trading a 1st in a buyers market with a supposedly good draft for Grabner.

You can say that he'll bring back a 1st, but what team is giving up that 1st for him? I've heard multiple GMs say they're flat out not trading 1st rounders or great prospects for rentals.

Especially one who creates lots of short handed opportunities because of this speed ... sure he's not an elite finisher but do not diminish the fact that his PK game + his speed makes him a threat you have to think about when you're on the PP. That's just silly not to.
