Given a large enough population there will always be outliers, stop listening to the loud fringe minority.
I was one of those load fringe minority to voice such opinion, but you would understand why we have such concern.

He wasn't that good for Pittsbugh but still better than a lot of teams goaltenders. Teams probably weren't willing to give up a 3rd for another goaltender that early. And then have to find a spot for the goaltender he would replace.
The third wasn’t given for DeSmith. It was the price to dump Pearson’s $3 million cap hit.

I think they gambled that he can return to somewhat decent form to flip at deadline. Definitely was not the case.
That was the notion. Flip Pearson and get an extra asset. He started out okay, but he's cooked. No great loss. They had the space to maximize the pick they got. DeSmith didn't have much value otherwise and Montreal didn't have much bargaining power in what was a 4 goalie logjam at the time.
