I wouldn’t trade a top 5 pick for him. Hasn’t performed to 2 OA star status but Kakko is a damn good nhler with room and potential to improve.

As does Guhle, but he’s never going to be a Fox/makar/hughes type of D.

If he tops out, he could be a 1st pair partner for one of those guys maybe.

Kakko has already scored 40 pts at even strength and performed well in playoffs.

It’s not really a stretch to say he can be a 55-60pt 2-way winger with a better opportunity elsewhere….

Granted, Kakko may not have top 5 draft billing, but I’m failing to see what Guhle has done to be worth “ far more” then Kakko.

or Mercer for that matter
Hilarious!!

You wouldn’t get a top15 / 20 pick for the disappointing Kakko!

I don’t think he has watched Dach play. He thinks he is a winger. He also thinks Slaf is a penalty machine that can’t be fixed because his stats told him so! lol

Meanwhile, Holtz would apparently be a top lime forward on the Habs….

I question if he knows what icing is…

Holtz isn't British. :sarcasm:

Why would the Devils do that?

New Jersey has enough smaller finesse players, They need to insulate those players with bigger and tougher skilled players. Getting Shrimp toast doesn't help at all.

counter offer

Holtz + Devils 2024 3rd round pick or Jets 2025 2nd round pick
for
2024 Jets 1st round pick or 2025 Habs 2nd round pick.

I think I'd pass on that as NJD. Our cap space and assets should not being going towards another top 6 scoring piece.

Moving Holtz for that little would be an absolute disaster.

Not a bad offer for Holtz and in the ballpark of his value. But he's not a player i see the Habs ever targeting. Too slow and doesn't fit the style of play the Habs are going for. I would rather draft with the Peg 1st round pick.

But a good trade proposal value-wise.

I don't trust this organization to suddenly change and somehow make Holtz into the player they want him to be. He needs a change of scenery and next year he will have lesser value.

Mercer had pretty excellent even strength numbers as a teenager on the 21-22 devils who were bottom 5 in the league
Mercer was a teenager for 2 weeks, let’s call him 20,
and he had the worst plus minus for forwards on the devils, wouldn’t call that “excellent “.

CC would sure play on your first line and score 40 + with Hughes
Holtz dosen't hold that much value

Holtz kindda take a top 6 spot to replace CC even if the quality is not the same
LOL, Holtz would not replace CC in any manner whatever. He was awful for the NJD. That type of trade would put the Habs in a perennial rebuild.

And Iginla/Catton become start NHL players in what? 5 years? Perennial rebuild. Buy that time Suzuki will be in his late 20's - assuming you haven't traded him for a shiny new object.
5 years ? wtf , 2 years at most (these are high end prospects)
Suzuki will be 26 when these 2 will be comming in.
Mean while the Defense will be on fire in 2 years.
Roy, Beck, Mesar will be in the lineup.
RFA would be signed.
Holtz play on the third.

RFA-Suzuki-Slaf
Newhook-Dach-Roy
Holtz-Beck-Mesar

They will enter the NHL in their D+2 (or D+3) season. They will take a couple years to get aclimatized. By their D+4 season, you hope they will put up 50 - 60 points.

Just stupid to trade CC who is on a good contract.

For #10 mostly
So you want them to rebuilt again and again and again? Caufield is 23 and just got 65pts while shooting at only 8.9% coming back from a shoulder surgery. Shooting at 13%, witch is not high at all, would have got him in the 40 goals range. Trading him for that is really bad asset managment.

Our 1st line is the Nico line but besides the point.

I would not trade Holtz for the winnipeg 1st.

And while in a vaccuum, Caufield is probably worth 10th overall, NJD cannot be spending another 8 mill on a winger.

It would leave us, assuming a bridge deal on mercer to save AAV. 8-8.25 mill to find:

a playable 4th line (this assumes Lazar plays 3rd line as well), a goalie, and a 2LD.

And if we do spend to the cap, that means likely 2 mill carries over to 25-26 from luke+nemec ELC bonuses.

Additionally Caufield probably only reaches 40 goals with PP1 time.

Which of Meier/Bratt are you taking off PP1 to accommodate that?
