JR would have never drafted Karlsson in the first place. this is a Complete hindsight discussion based on what the players became.

Speaking of high, No chance JR takes Kopitar with Marc Staal sitting right there.
He never would’ve taken Karlsson there. It would’ve never been on the table.

How far JR was willing to go with his Staal crush is definitely an interesting conversation. Retrospectively you can make an argument that despite how painful it would be to take Staal over Kopitar that taking Staal over Ladd might’ve been a good thing. You wouldn’t have had Marc’s career altered by his brother throwing the only violent hits I think I ever saw him throw. He was exactly the kind of D this team needed over much of his career, especially when he was in his prime.

McBain came across as a guy that got by on his talent but didn't take much seriously. That would be his detriment IMO. He was incredibly skilled, but if he took his offseason training seriously then he would have no doubt been a star.

Of course, same could be said of me and becoming a pro soccer player so it is what it is.
Whenever we talk of someone not taking off season seriously I now think of that picture of Darling the summer before he showed up for his first camp here at a BBQ or whatever and he’s got a beer gut.

Mcbain had a great off season dad bod pic too but I think he was coming off an injury or something that gave him an excuse. It was much easier to believe he had just accepted his career was about over and had embraced the Pavel Brendl hot dog regiment.

From back-to-back 30 point seasons (technically 27 in '11-12) and our future , to flaming out of the NHL 3 seasons later, 2 more in the AHL and RETIRED (at age 31)...how the mighty hath fallen...guess he wasn't interested in playing KHL/Euro?

Looked like he really enjoyed Wisconsin lake living, and having experienced it first hand I don’t actually blame him. I get why some guys when they make it to that point don’t want to move to another culture just to grind it out a for a year or two. Guess it depends on what opportunities you have waiting for you back home.

Did Marc delete Eric’s save file when they were kids or what?
I'm sure they went at each other plenty when they were kids growing up on the farm. Just brothers being brothers. I'm sure that hit was going to be the same until it wasn't. Eric is a big dude and could have rocked dudes all the time if that was his game.

I always wonder how would career of certain big but skilled players look if they were playing the game more physically. Especially Jágr. He was more than 240 lbs throughout the majority of his NHL career.

I mean the Staal hit was clean but damn do you hate to see a hit like that.

Also that Justin St Pierre couldn't hold the jock of the one I played soccer with... and his name was Brian not Justin... OK he was also backup QB for the Steelers... also yes I played up a couple years in soccer as a kid, I wasn't joking when I said I was a pro prospect... f*** you, shut up.

It’s like what the others have said but it was more than one hit. It was a couple of games right next to each other where Eric was on a war path against Marc. Chased him down a number of times. The big one gave him a concussion and it was a pretty big deal.

Now Rangers teammates, Eric & Marc Staal recall hit that shook a family, and a career

The most ****ed up part of that situation is the Rangers listed it as a knee injury and hid news about the concussion until the following training camp... while Marc came back and played right through the playoffs.

I don’t understand a world where a billion dollar company can fake medical info to get a brain-damaged employee back in the line of fire, and face zero consequences for that.

Did you mean Staal over Johnson? Or am I misunderstanding what you mean?
