They do 0 for NJ. No reason to do this trade from an NJ perspective. It benefits us in 0 ways.

NJ is rebuilding and has no interest in Chiarot and Byron. Fleury and Mete aren’t really worth giving up Maltsev let alone use two of our 50% retains for.

The MTL players for the most part don’t fit what NJ wants to do. Byron and Chiarot don’t fit the NJ timeline and Mete is just more of what the team already doesn’t play in Butcher. Fleury would fit but at that point just propose him for Maltsev. That said Maltsev is exempt from the expansion draft and NJ probably wants to keep him for now. I can’t see MTL wanting Subban back.

a 22 yr old promising RD, still waiver exempt, and a 22 yr old proven LD aint nothing
not familiar enough w Maltsev in particular, but it seems NJD have a handful of young F's on the verge
so it seems promising for NJ to me

Mete is not a good fit in NJ. He's tiny. NJ already has Butcher who can't see the ice. Mete is not going to help. Substitute a young RD who is at least somewhat hard to play against and sure.
