Everybody talks about Matthews next contract being about 10 million and they are probably right, MAYBE you can get him for 9 million but he's probably getting 10.

But Marner needs a new deal too and he is the #2 guy on the team, I am interested to see what he gets, he won't get Matthews money but he's going to get PAID

I will be interested to see what the difference in pay between Matthews and Marner

What do you think he gets?

Matthews will get 8-10 mill but I think Nylander/Marner will get deals like Hall/Eberle/RNH got. 6 million for 5-6 years.

There is no way that Marner gets just 6.5 if he repeats or adds to last year's performance.

If he adds to the performance you could see 8-8.5 if he repeats maybe 7.5

His rookie season production is comparable to the following:

Toews (5 x 6.3M)
Nugent-Hopkins (6 x 6M)
Forsberg (7 x 6M)
MacKinnon (7 x 6.3M)
Skinner (6 x 5.725M)

Most of those contracts were signed a while ago, so the numbers should go slightly up due to the higher cap. Can't really make a prediction yet before seeing how he does in his second year.

Agreed.
Probaby 5-7 years at 6-7 million

I think that it really depends on how he performs this year, but it will be somewhere in the 6-8m dollar range. 8 million only if he completely blows this year out of the water (top 20 scoring), and the team makes a very deep playoff run. He will likely get something in the 6.5-7.5m dollar range though. I think that him an Nylander will get the same contract.

Assuming his sophomore year is a slight improvement on his rookie year and he doesn't accomplish any dramatic individual feats, something in the 6.5M range give or take for 6-7 years is what I'd predict. That is the boiler plate "highly drafted forward prospect who is doing well for himself" contract, recently see MacKinnon, Monahan, Barkov, Gaudreau, etc.

Marner - 8 Years @ 6.5M
Nylander - 8 Years @ 6.5M
Matthews - 8 Years at 9M

Would go 7M for Marner and Nylander and would maybe go 10M for Matthews.

A lot of people are saying Marner/Nylander should get 8M but based of comparable's 6.5M makes more sense. Granted it really depends on this season production.

Do you think Marner makes it to his next contract? I'm concerned about his size

I get the sense that people will bring this up after he retires and gets put in the HOF. I mean yeah, he was a great player, but he wasn't even allowed on the rides at wonderland.

If the hype keeps up, then who knows.Very good little player ,but i fear as many that have come before him. The Leaf media will pump him up past all reasonable expectations

If Matthews gets a McDavid contract (12.5) then Marner gets north of 8.
Can a team in the Cap era have more than two guys making north of 8?

To be blunt, none of these guys ever scored 40 goals, or came particularly close.

Also some aren't as good defensively.

As a Leaf fan I wold love if his next deal was inline with the ones above, but I don't think his agent will be using those comps...

wait... this is a thread about Marner, right? He scored 19 goals last season. I listed comparables for his 61-point rookie season.
