This guy hates the Avs, which bodes well for MN, especially at this price.

Are you sure?
Who is the 5th forward?
Have you ever heard of Addison?
Probably Greenway or Foligno?

Why is Addison relevant here? Just because you might have a defenseman coming up doesn't mean you dump a very good one for nothing. That's terrible managing 101.

That was the original thought, and would still be valid without context, mainly;

- MN's best, most ready D prospects, Menell and Addison, are offensive minded RHD. Both should ready to play in the NHL next year

- Wild have three D with NMC's.

- Dumba makes 6M, in a cap strapped league. Their other top 3 Dmen make 21M combined.

- if they trade Dumba and go 7+3, then Carson Soucy( 6'5", good defensively, and leads MN Dmen in 5v5 scoring)would be a likely target for Seattle. Which would mean that MN would be out two top 4 quality Dmen. I think that Guerin might be thinking that he can survive with losing Dumba and his 6M cap hit, considering that he has two replacements who will be making near minimum. Losing two Dmen will be too much of a blow. He can always use that 5M or so gained to go hunting for a Center(Danault?), which is the position MN must address.

Great explanation of why exposing Dumba and just dealing with it may make the most sense. Nobody thinks this is a great situation for the Wild, Dumba's a terrific and valuable RHD. But cap implications moving forward, potential internal solutions and the very real possibility that trying to avoid having to expose Dumba could actually make the blueline situation worse - very well explained here and why most of the "mock expansion draft" pieces floating around the internet right now are completing lacking in the intimate details that complicate team-by-team situations well beyond just "player x is better than player y and therefore will get protected".
