Eh, teams likely want the dust to settle from Hockey Canada and McLeod can do better than 4 goals.

The 4th season, at around age 25, is when a lot of non-elite guys pop. He could have a really nice season and set himself up for something bigger longterm than whatever he would get now.

Which works for us. He's still going to be RFA next season, so if he does really grow as a player, we won't be losing him for nothing and might be set-up to re-sign him long-term at a decent price.

Awesome stuff. Like bastian, good work by fitz. Key cog of that fourth line and other intangibles. I’m prolly a bigger McLeod guy than most so very pleased here.

Very nice job from Fitzy. He got Mikey and Bastian back at the numbers he wanted and avoided more pricey arbitration.

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer here but :

I'm not of the belief that Mcleod can get better as a player.

I think what we've seen is what we will still get this season.

He is what he is and will be elsewhere more than likely after next season.

It's good he's re-signed as a point of CONTINUITY but unless he improves his goal-scoring output, I just don't see his future continuing in NJ after next year.

I would have probably agreed if the season ended earlier. What we saw from McLeod in the playoffs was some of the best hockey he has ever played as a devil. Him and bastian have bought into their roles here in NJ. There’s a reason to be optimistic about him going forward.

would have obviously preferred 2years but I am very relieved he is coming back.
Makes me wonder if they take another shot at this next year and he gets another bump.
I remain adamant that he is essential to the makeup of this team.

He had a great playoffs for us though. That was really surprising.

The playoffs was something else. If McLeod brings that game next season we can do another deal. Was a little surprised we signed him to one year vs. Bastian's 2...

But a good show me something again contract.

Very nice deal. He likely could have gotten some more term and even higher AAV elsewhere.
He could and should have gotten a lot more.

There is nobody even close to his salary with similar faceoff skills. Hopefully he will reveal later what he though of this contract. It's not unusual that older players agree to play close to league minimum, but this is unusual with younger players. I don't think this is a case where the players bets on himself either, since he really could have gotten a better deal elsewhere with possibly a bigger role.

could well be good for him too - if he does show this again and can become a free agent he can leverage this for a much more substantial contract either here or elsewhere.

I'm pleased with both Bastian and McLeod re-signing. Fitz kept the right two guys from the BMW line, and on cheap and short deals.

No easy feat when dudes like Reaves are getting absurd contracts from other GMs.
