He looks like a regular 4th line scrub you sign for 500k so far this season. We traded 4 prospects, although they were meh prospects, and Taylor Beck for this guy. I haven't even seen 1 flash of his play that made a name for himself in Long Island.

I would have rather kept Beck and the prospects.

All of those prospects would have taken away important minutes from young marlies who need it.

We did that trade for contract space, not to acquire Grabner

Yeah, this was a 5 for 1 contract swap. At least he hasn't been a liability (+1 so far). He has some decent upside, too.

The move was mostly about making roster space, I agree with that. And I also agree that it's not exactly some clear-cut NHL potential we traded away. Still, we traded a fourth liner and 4 prospects for a fourth line PK specialist and four extra roster spots, some of which have been used on Campbell and Clune.

Still not a fan of the trade.

I remember when people thought Finn was gonna be so good
Lol what a joke. Literally every prospect gets overrated around here and the majority end up being scrubs

That's how things are with prospects for every team. It's not just Leafs prospects that generally don't turn out, despite hope of the fans.

I'm confused why we didn't try out Taylor Beck. Gibson is an unremarkable prospect. The rest seem to be trash.

We did it for 4 contract spots, but honestly I'd rather just have the trade back

who did we use those contracts on? Andrew Campbell, Clune, Boyes and Corrado?

Campbell is doing fine with the kids in the AHL but he's not ever going to be worth anything, Boyes we might be able to get a pick out of, Corrado has some potential but we're never playing him, and Clune, yuck

I know we can't go back and do half the deal or anything, but I'd prefer having Nilsson and CV to Clune and Campbell. Would prefer Beck to Grabner.

So the only benefits is Boyes and Corrado instead of Gibson and Finn. Those are pretty minor benefits. Oh well. What's done is done.

What happened to him? He used to be a dangerous forward. He's been invisible.

i expected him to be useless in every way, but he's actually been very good possession wise and on the PK. His speed really is a factor there. i definitely like him on our 4th line.

looks like his offense is gone forever, though.

Oven then stomach
One of the fastest players I've ever seen. Gravel between the ears though.

hands also have some of the gravel youre talking about

matthias has usurped his role as team speedster imo. the double hernia isn't gonna help make his "performance" look any better to GMs.

They picked him up, like the other not-too-offensively-impressive pickups, to fill a role to help stabilize the team's play under Babcock.

Say what you will about Grabner, Spalling, Boyes, Parenteau and Matthias, they compete hard for ice/pucks and have been important in turning the team's play around from last season. It's just unfortunate (depending on your perspective) that they are all, more or less, offensive voids.

That's exactly what I keep thinking when watching this guy. I was really excited when we made that trade, because I remembered that 'dangerous forward.' But he hasn't been that here, even for a minute.

He has been effective enough on the PK, he seems to be out there more than anyone else shorthanded. And he has OK possession numbers, apparently. So he isn't hurting the team by being here.

But I thought this was a guy that could lead the team in goals if he developed some chemistry with offensive linemates. But he hasn't made a real impact in a game yet. 'Invisible' is a good word for it. I don't understand where his shot went. He was a real scoring threat for a while on the Islanders. Here, he isn't even getting chances.

I agree with most here that he hasn't been as much as I hoped for even strength, in so much as I thought he'd put up more points.

But, he hasn't been bad defensively 5v5 and he's been good on the PK. I think he's really really good on the PK, to the point where I'm less nervous we'll be scored on when we are shorthanded than (at times) being scored on when we have the PP. What's with the goofin around in our own end and giving up chances when WE are on the PP.

Sorry, I digress. Yeah, he's so good on the PK and has a great stick -- and the opp. is constantly concerned he could get a breakway, though, I don't think they're too worried he'll score if he does get one.

But, seriously, he's a good pick up for the stage we are at, and, when paired with Froese, I think it helps Froese's game as well as he's got someone with speed. Froese has so much grit and effort, and to play with someone as fast as Grabner is going to help Froese learn to do things at faster speeds and he'll be better all around for it..
