I'm glad we were able to move on, I had no confidence in him at this point. I hope he does well in Toronto (ugh... I feel dirty saying that, maybe not too well, just well enough to be a disaster I guess) because I don't take issue with the player, things just didn't work out and health getting in the way always sucks for a player.
That said, it was a big risk trading for and signing a goalie to a big contract who:
- had not been good when we acquired him
- had a bit of an injury issue in the past
- was apparently overhauling his style the offseason we picked him up
In the end, it cost us a 2nd, a 3rd, a conditional 6th and 13.75 million dollars to have a two year experiment with him, that's not too bad of a risk when the potential payoff is a youngish #1 goalie with a couple cups under his belt, and he'd never have been available if there wasn't some downside, it didn't work out though so I'm happy to move on.
