Because Oligny is not under contract with the Preds. He is on a straight AHL deal and is available to be signed by an NHL club much like Darling was

Oligny is another Rich Peverly type situation. The unsigned Peverly outplayed the Preds prospects in Milwaukee for 2 years before he was signed by Nashville after leading the Admirals in scoring. Oligny will eventually play in the NHL for somebody. If not Nashville, then perhaps Las Vegas. He is only 23.

Rich Peverly stats in Milwaukee: 176 games 56 G 112 A 156 PIMs

He played on the Admirals team of 2005-06 that lost in the Calder Cup finals to Hershey, scoring 2 goals and 9 assists in 21 playoff games.

442 NHL games 84 G 157 A 167 PIMs, playoffs 59 9 G 12 A 33 PIMs

Most of his NHL points were scored for Atlanta. He was on the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup winning team of 2010-11, scoring 4 goals and 8 assists in 25 playoff games.

A heart condition forced his retirement as a player.

You need good vets to sit in the press box and play games when there's an injury. Better than constantly calling up a youngster.

Good veteran presence for the locker room with Stanley Cup experience. This team lost Weber, Goose, Nystrom, and Jackman... all seasoned veterans and strong locker room personalities. Even if he doesn't play a lot of minutes, hopefully he brings some maturity off ice.
