I think the first was an embellishment but the second was definitely the wrong call.

Refs were ****ing terrible tonight.

Malkin totally decided to take a dive when he was the last man back and on a PP. I'm sure getting his feet kicked out had nothing to do with him falling.

Which is great but has nothing to do with diving. Every player powers through fouls and a lot of players (maybe the majority) dive and embellish.

Personally I don't think it is that bad, but most teams have 2-3 guys you can ID as a diver. Malkin isn't one I would point out but he has dove a few times

everybody has dived a few times... nothing out of ordinary regarding Malkin in order to call him on embelishing two times in a game...

Evgeni Malkin penalized for TWO dives tonight

Just saw it on NHL.com, next player to be fined by the league?

I can deal with the 1st one but that 2nd one was a brutal call. Geno was doing the leap by the player thing he does and Bolland tripped him with his stick. Can't see how Geno could embellish in that instance.
I'll keep an eye out for a gif.

1st call was not embellishment...it was unsportsmanlike conduct for getting in the face of the dude that tripped him.

The actual embellishment call was an absolute joke...Malkin doesn't dive

Yeah sure.

First one was kinda understandable call.

However, second one was a complete BS call, because the refs didn´t want to award a long 5 on 3 powerplay to the Pens which would be the case... Happens so many times, it´s pathetic. Rules are the rules, no matter how many guys are actually on the ice, but the refs are way too stubborn.

They absolutely lost the control of that game..

Those are both pretty bad. The first being way worse than the second.

In the playoffs 5 years ago, Maxim Lapierre got two diving calls against him. It was either against Washington or Pittsburgh.

He had a nice dive against the avs the other day. So good on the refs.for calling him out. We don't want this to end up like soccer.

i can live with the first call , but the second one wasnt a dive/embellishment. If the NHL start calling those , they are gonna end up with embellishment calls every time someone trip up a player .

Like most things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. He's certainly not a notorious diver, but I won't say he's impossible to get off his feet, either.

In this case I think the refs thought he was James Neal.

James Neal is not alone in this league. There are 22 other players as of last night who are a dive away from a fine like Neal's. Malkin is now one of them, I expect.

I guess my point is, the league has their eyes on many players.
