The facepalm isn't about removing defensive responsibility to Galchenyuk, it's the fact that MT keeps referencing to DD as a great two-way, skilled defensively centre when that is not at all the case.

Clearly, DD's not the one impeding Galchenyuk's ascension...it's Plekanec

Whether or not Galchenyuk is playing center 12 mins a night with Eller/Andrighetto/Carr

or

Whether or not Galchenyuk is playing cente 16-18 mins a night (like Desharnais) with Fleischmann/Weise/Eller

It doesn't really matter.

The question at hand is that Therrien refuses to use Galchenyuk at center with Pacioretty/Gallagher because he feels he's not responsibile enough defensively, while he'll continue to put up with Plekanec's complete ineptness offensively, because he's perceived as being a top defensive center.

Those of you looking at DD as Galchenyuk's biggest impedement...aren't looking in the right direction.

Most people here would be satisfied with 27 used at #2 center behind Plekanec. Plekanec brings defensive plays even when he's not producing on the board, Desharnais has been a black hole offensively for the last quarter season yet he gets a pass because according to Therrien, DD is responsible defensively which is a load of bs.

And to add insult to injury, their most producing center of the last month is now stuck to the wing with said black hole centering him!

I didn't see him say that before. Desharnais is better defensively than given credit for here, but he's not great defensively. Average. Maybe slightly above when he's working really hard.

He's looked down on a lot because Therrien thinks he's a savior. He's wrong.

Go ahead and put Galchenyuk on a line with Pacioretty and Gallagher. We're all waiting for the day, anyway. The problem with that has ALWAYS been, who are the "genuine" top 6 wingers you're putting with Plekanec on the 2nd line? Eller? lol. Weise? DSP? Euh...

Not sure what's difficult to understand about THAT, since the theme of lacking a top 6 winger is exactly what continues to be discussed to this day all over the place. Remember the reason Bergevin even bothered to bring in Semin AND Kassian in the first place??
