Counterpart featuring J.K. Simmons has begun. It's available on TMN Encore (Channel 816 if you are a Videotron subscriber).

RT is giving it a pretty stellar rating: Counterpart: Season 1 - Rotten Tomatoes

Also on FX, I'll be watching for The Assassination of Gianni Versace. You'll remember the first series that got rave reviews, the OJ murder trial. If last year's OJ series is any indication, this should be good.

Counterpart ep1 has been available on CraveTV earlier (since mid last week maybe, not entirely sure).

I checked it out and, while I didn't find it ground-breaking, it was entertaining enough to keep me going for now. Thanks again for the heads-up about it.

Watched Three Billboards. Not as great as McDonagh's In Bruges but still one of the better movies this year. Rockwell is a standout, as he was in Seven Psychopaths.

I'm not one to comment on actor's performance's as I really don't watch enough movies or know enough about the intricacies; however, I thought McDonagh was fantastic. Loved her character. Also, didn't mind the ending. My wife hated it (she likes closure), but I thought it was fitting.

OMG....

One of the few times real life is scarier than sci-fi.

I too found it fitting, the characters had already gone through their redemption arcs so I didn't mind the open ending. With the theme of forgiveness being so present, I like to think they ended up not going through with it, which I'm assuming was the goal here by the director.

The Last Jedi was probably the worst written film I've seen in years.

I felt it was all over the place. They could have cut so much out of it. Finn and Rose's adventure to Space Monaco was unnecessary. They should have had Finn sacrifice himself at the end. Crash the speeder into the cannon. Would have been a fitting end to his character.

Overall it felt like the movie ends exactly where it started. We are no further into the story than we were when it started.

It was okay. Not a fan of how racism and abuse were handled in the film, just kind of brushed aside as no big deal. Also zero reason for Dinklage to be in the film, it’s like McDonagh is obsessed with dwarves (ie In Bruges). The film felt very forced. The acting performances were great though.

Just watched Blade Runner 2049 and really enjoyed it. Ryan Gosling has perfected the "I don't give a f***" look in his characters haha. Essentially the exact same acting between Drive and this film, but that's ok cause I enjoyed both!

I'm kinda upset that Denis V doesn't get an Oscar nod as a director for BR2049 but maybe it will motivate him to make Dune one of the best movie ever.

You're the first person I've seen mention the Post as the best of the year.
Very very average as far as we were concerned

I wasn't baiting with my earlier post. I haven't seen "The Post" (or "Hostiles" for that matter), but my "channels" (some industry-connected friends) have been spouting the opposite regarding to "The Post".

Doesn't touch the top 10 this year AFAIC

Even over "The Post"?
I wasn't a fan of The Post. It's a relevant subject and all, but it was too by-the-numbers and felt just amateur-ish. I far, far, FAR prefer All the President's Men.

I agree that this casino thing was the worst part, but tell me that in any of the other Star Wars movies there wasn't also a part you disliked? I watched it a second time with my GF and I have to say I appreciated a lot more on the second viewing. This is the SW movie that has the most subtleties in dialogue and action.

For example, many have missed that the the Holy Books that were in the tree were now in the Falcon. Yoda knew that, hence his sentence "There is nothing in there that Rey doesn't already possess" takes a much different meaning. And he burned the Tree for that purpose. There are many other things like that. The casino is to show that just like the Force, you can use the same thing for good or bad reasons. It all depends on you and how you do it. Rey has shown she can manipulates the Dark side without falling to it, that is very important and starts a new way of doing things for a new order of Jedi.

And the little boy with the broomstick at the end. And.... many things really.

I also enjoyed TLJ much more the second time. However I still think it was classless to tease Leia’s death 3ish times just because we know Carrie is dead.

I absolutely loved Three Billboards. Really enjoy McDonagh's style in general, In Bruges is probably my favorite movie.

He always act the same.

He's so overrated.

As you see Blade Runner was not my cup of tea. :D
