He's got 10 points in 9 KHL games. Not to bad!

Is he a UFA at the end of the season allowing any NHL team to sign him? Does he have an out clause this year for Moscow? Does anyone see any glimmer of hope of him resigning, if we are able to move Liles, freeing up space?

Man such a fantastic offseason, only to have this one black cloud, anyone want to speculate on what you think made him go home? Just the money? Or did he want an expanded role, other than a PK specialist\4th line\3rd line tweener.

IIRC, He didn't want an expanded role - From his exit interview, he just wanted to prove he could play in the NHL and now he's going back to the KHL where he'll probably make more money closer to home.

as much as i liked him... i just don't think he's that good of a player. i don't think he's good enough to play on a 3rd line... and i guess he could play on a 4th line... but our 4th line is reserved for mcclement and goons... and komorov is neither.

his speed, PKing and offensive ability (exponentially so) have been replaced by Raymond. Best of luck to him though, he was so fun to watch.

This may be the year we trade kulemin. Komarov can take kulemins spot on the pk and 3rd line no problem. Or maybe he just takes Raymond's spot if Raymond walks after this year. Really liked komarovs game and want him back for third line!

Id have him on my team any day.... at max $1 million.

He has decent skill, but the NHL is too fast for him to do to much offensively

Raymond vs Komarov

Scoring - Ray
PK - Ray
pp - Neither will
Defence - Draw
Grit - Komarov

Over all would rather take Ray for sure.

Don't komarov have second most ice time for our pk last year after mcclement? For forwards that is. I realize Raymond is a great PKer, but I don't know if you can say for sure that Raymond is better. I'm open to being proven wrong though.

Komarov was one of my favourite Leafs last year. An excellent fourth-liner and a decent fill-in on the third line in short spurts. Along with the often-praised McClement and goaltending, I think he definitely deserves his fair share of credit for the Leafs' incredible turnaround on the PK.

Not irreplaceable by any stretch, but it would be great to bring him back at a reasonable cap hit if possible. However, with all of the UFAs and RFAs the Leafs have to deal with in the next year, I somewhat doubt he will figure much into their plans.

Would have liked to see him back, obviously not for the amount of money we would pay him. Really can't blame him for leaving for the expanded roll and more money.

Komarov is a solid PK player, I definitely agree.

Komarov was 9th though for SHTOI/G on the team.
Komarov was 3rd among Forwards though

McClement 3:39
Kulemin 2:11

Komarov 1:48
Bozak 1:38
Hamilton 1:15
JvR 1:11
Steckle 1:04

He was better than what we had, but when you look at our roster last year

JvR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - MacArthur/Frattin
Kulemin - Grabo - Komarov
Orr - McClement - McLaren/Frattin

We didn't have a ton of options.

You don't want to use up your best scorers in playing the PK, so ideally JvR and Bozie wouldn't be on the PK so much. Like we were so desperate for PK'rs, 2/3 of our 1st line made up 2 out of 5 of our regular PK'rs.

Orr/McLaren weren't going to PK, so it was really down to use Komarov, Frattin or Grabo or result to using even more of JvR and Bozie on the PK.

I agree Komarov was for sure a better PK'r than Frattin or Grabo, but I think that's really all his TOI last year proves.

Komarov never had trouble scoring in the KHL. He had trouble translated his offensive game when he got to the NHL. That kind of production could mean something or nothing at all in terms of what he could do for the team offensively if he were here this year. He brings a lot of great qualities and I'd take him on the team any day but he didn't have enough skill needed to play the kind of role that he wanted to play which is why he left in the first place.

Loved the guy. How can you not like a guy that skates hard every shift, gets in on the forecheck consistently and finishes every check? A pest but not a dirty one. A virtual energizer bunny. Gonna miss him and I think the team will too...I honestly think he could be a 12-15 goal scorer with regular 3rd line minutes but that's just me.

I would have loved to have him on this team for the foreseeable future.

Komarov - McClement - Goon

is just too good looking.

If only Leo potted a few more...

Leafs were 4-0 when he did and outscored the opposition 17-2 in those games.

The secret ingredient is gone dammit

I think the Leafs are going to miss what Komarov brought to the table a bit this year. He can play on the 3rd or 4th line, center or wing, solid defensively and is a competent faceoff man. We also don't really have anyone to replace the amount of hits per game he averaged. Too bad he wanted too much money.

JVR Bozak Kessel
Lupul Kadri Raymond
Kulemin Bolland Clarkson
Komaron McClem Orr

I am a BIG Komarov supporter and really wish he could of succeeded on the smaller ice and feel the leafs would welcome back with open arms. That being said he has connections and ties with Ovi and could very well see him going to the caps.

On a side note as people have pointed out with Raymond we prob got a more offensive but MUCH less physical guy who might lessen the loss.

I wouldn't look too much into points. Take a look at Astana Barys for example , guys like Dustin Boyd , Brandon Bochenski and Nigel Dawes are tearing it up a more than a PPG pace..

I'm sure Komarov is doing fine but stats can be misleading...

As nice as that looks, replacing Komarov with a player like Ashton would suffice and come cheaper. I love Komarov, he was fun to watch, but there is no room for him on the roster under our current cap constraints.

Leo will certainly be missed. The guy played hard every shift. Any team needs a guy like that. It's tough to have "motivated" fourth line guys but Komarov did it all. Tons of energy, hit, drew penalties, killed penalties for next to nothing salary wise. You need that.
