This is what happens, when your best players, are your best players.... you win games...

And when the other club wheels out their .885 backup. Nice to see Matty cranking it up though. Their big 3 should be on the scoresheet every night.

Edit: Vlad did make some big saves. He's just not Markstrom,

JT needs his minutes considerably reduced, ditto for Gio and Brodie, all past their best before due date……..
Still think the play is if they can acquire Tanev without giving up their 1st or any top prospect and sign him for 2 years it would be great for Brodie.

Drop down to play easier minutes. Possibly Gio could rest every other game.

Praise Jebus that Bertuzzi contract is only a year. Unless he becomes a completely different (ie, actually useful) player in the playoffs, he's currently David Clarkson-level value for money.
He looks like he's out there playing shinny

Not a peep about AM34s hatty from two of our bigger haters HFOil and HFBruins.

Both were just cheering that we almost blew the lead.

Guaranteed if Matthews didn’t score one goal they would be all over him.

Jealousy runs deep over there.

I like that Matthews guy, I'm sure they'll be some sort of criticism directed towards him after this game. Even though he doesn't deserve it.

I could take or leave the rest of the team though.

That Tavares/Bertuzzi/Nylander line was pretty awful the entire 60 minutes. And Tavares may finally be hitting the wall.

2nd. line had it's moments.

But methinks you exaggerate a bit ... no player plays 60 minutes.
If you want to go full extreme you could say for about 14 minutes.

Our video coaches. Or video team.
Caught that centimetre of a play.
And giving Keefe like a 972% in video Challenges lol
They do a good job at review, not sure you'd want them coaching though.
Makes sense for the OP though, next he'll want Jeffler and Dangle for co-GM.

If we make the playoffs he needs to bring it .
Regular season is great but let's see what happens when the games get tougher..
Same with the other 3 top players.
You do realize that you're asking for a lot....

Benoit’s been a unexpected bonus this season, too bad he’s probably pricing himself out of a job with the Leafs going forward……..
His ask will be around $10-11MM. He'll fit right in.

I don't disagree, but it's unlikely he does midseason.

Let him rest and play him 15 mins in the playoffs. Still an excellent shot blocker and not afraid to mix it up come playoff time.

Ummm....a peewee team line would be faster than this.

It wouldn't be about speed though would it?
That seems to be the disconnect that has to be addressed.

Tavares, perhaps, just needs his TOI reduced, and needs a more cohesive unit to play with? All-Star break might be a welcome time.

Jarnkrok-?-Nylander

What is too bad is I think Robertson-?-Nylander might be effective depending on "?".

Sometimes very slow and very sloppy is OK, fam
Perhaps it‘s Ok.

Their puck possession, especially just inside the blue line, was a sight to see. How many times did they pass it over the line for no reason?
I saw them play against Nashville a few weeks back was surprised at how disorganized they were then despite winning that game.

So we beat a garbage team in Calgary built by an apparently garbage GM and it’s all sunshine and lollipops . Seems about right. Onto the next one

Yes, but only for a maximum of 24 hours.

We can appreciate how awesome Matthews is and then go back to grumbling about our defense later. Gotta enjoy the win while we can

Seriously though, did they need a win even if ugly, but usually during a slide, the first one is the ugly one. Auston carrying the team today. We don't deserve him.
They need to do something about Bertuzzi. That line was awful.

Bert has been horrible all season, statistically speaking this is his worse year as a pro. maybe he shows up in the playoffs but at $5,500,000 he is grossly underperforming his contract. Just to rub it in a little more do you know who else is making $5.5 mil? Hyman...

Our Left side is a mess, our D core is a mess and our goaltending is a mess. If it was not for Nylander and Matty going All World in the first 40 games, we'd be a lottery team.

Is JT hurt? 0 points in the last 6 games?

Sure Matthews scored a hat trick and carried the team to a W. But can you imagine if we had Stutzle instead!!!

Guy is gonna go down as a top 3 greatest goal scorer in hockey history, absolutely filthy.
