They were losing every battle, and seemed a half second behind the leafs in responding to loose pucks. They had no fight. I can't imagine Roy lasting very long, if Yesterday was a typical game for them.

Have to agree. They looked like the Leaf teams we've watched the past few years, zero passion.

One thing that I noticed about Reims' play this year that has me feeling more comfortable is that he's not on his face anymore and I rarely see him swimming. Rather he's using his frame to his advantage to stop the puck. He hasn't done that since 2011

You haven't caught every game then... because he was swimming a lot just a few games ago.

Was that the Vancouver game? Usually when I think of him swimming is just him needlessly falling on his stomach on every play. I did notice in the Vancouver game he was flailing about in the 3rd period though.

he will always be a scrambling netminder. deal with it.

it's not a bad thing. been quite a few goaltenders that scramble on second or third attempts, however depending on how the defense plays around him, it works.

of course if you scramble around like that AND your defense is drinking coffee and eating donuts and giving the opposition time and space to shoot, you're going to look bad.

I'd rather have a goaltender scramble around and make saves versus one that "looks better" that gives up on the play.

Might have been, I remember the Commentators having a long discussion about it, and how it's unorthodox.. but working for him. Also there has been quite a bit of talk about his abundance of movements/and being on the ice a lot on these message boards.

Could Babcock's coaching bait Stamkos into joining our team?

Maybe not Stamkos but I think players will be a lot more willing to join the team seeing Babcock behind the bench with all the big names in the front office. It's bringing back a lot of the respect the Leafs have lost over the years imo.

Closer to a playoff spot than Matthews. I expect that trend will continue.

Leafs are 24th. in points per game.

They are behind Buffalo, Boston, Tampa, Florida, and Detroit for the last playoffs spot in the Atlantic, and the last Atlantic spot is 4 points behind the last wild card spot.

Leafs are definitely closer to a top 5 pick than a playoffs spot.

They are on a good streak right now, with a goalie putting in a a near top of the league performance.

Question: Who will replace Kessel goals if he is traded?

Answer: Komorov

18 games into the season

Komarov with JVR and Kadri on the top line 6 goals.
Kessel with Crosby/Malkin has 6 goals.

Goal differential replacing Kessel with Komarov = 0 [@ ~ 1/4 mark]

PS. UFA signing PA Parenteau also has 6 goals for $1.5 mil.

Komarov snipe into the top corner in this game only something Kessel could do.

Wonder what the polls said about which one is better?

I don't expect Reimer to play out the season like he is playing now. It would be great, heck, Hasek became as starter at age 28. ;)

Perhaps getting away from the old goalie coach?

Reimer has already had two previous seasons at this level.

Bozak is riding on Parenteau's coat-tail. :sarcasm:

That line is developing some chemistry, Bozak always seems to land on his feet. Maybe he's just a glue guy, if there is a couple of pieces lying around he'll put them together and make it work.

I think that's a solid way to describe Bozak .. But I think him and his line's play is also a product of Babcock's structured system - each guy has bought in and understand where to go and they've got the chemistry to make some plays

Glad to see they're playing well .. Need to get some trade value out of them. Especially for Bozak who needs to prove he can be an effective player when he's not with Kessel (and he's showing it right now)

What?

Detroit is in 3rd with 19pts.

One win we jump 2 teams, another win, another two/three teams.
We're close.

Take out the games that Bernier started and that would be a better indication of what we can expect from this team moving forward. Even if Reimer slows down a bit, I don't think we will finish in the bottom 10, let alone the bottom 5.

It's funny how that has worked out so far, eh? And Malkin seems to be a malcontent, and Crosby doesn't look right . . .

I mean, at the end of the day, Komarov will be happy with 15, maybe 20 goals if we're lucky, and Kessel will still get his 35 . . . but Kadri WILL eventually start scoring again, and it's way more about the differential and style of play. Our goals against has plummeted, with a very similar lineup minus Kessel (and no real defensive specialists coming in) . . . and even with our somewhat low talent level, it doesn't look like a team that's completely starved of goalscoring - definitely bottom half of the league in that department, but not bottom 5.

Happy to see Holland doing well.

Hoping he can be a key piece for us in the future. If he can develop into a great defensive 3C that would be fantastic.

If every team loses and Leafs win, they're in great shape.

Buffalo is ahead with a game in hand.
Boston is ahead with 2 games in hand.
Detroit and Florida have 19 points with a game in hand.
Tampa has 19 points, but has played 1 more game.

New Jersey and Pittsburgh have games in hand, are in the wild card spots and have 5 and 6 points more than the Leafs.
