Sandin didn't have a good game but the o/t goal was on JT . Johnny pj's should have stayed in the center of the ice and high instead ofr going wide and starting to drop down , i have no idea where he thought he was going with 2 Leafs already low .

the pr machine pimping Johnny works on the fans who don't pay close enough attention but i doubt his teammates are amused with him getting pimped while they get thrown under the bus
Sandin's mistake was not being aware of who was on the ice. Under normal circumstances when there is a forward back, you can jump up into the play as he did. With Tavares back, that's not a good idea.

With the aggressive style Toronto'a defenders are asked to play you need some recovery speed. The backend is laughably slow leading to a lot of odd man rushes. Forwards aren't helping much either but that has been the case pretty much this cores entire existence

Not even just the core - last night there we moments where the entire 3rd line was chasing the puck below the goal line and it inevitably went the other way for an odd man rush.

The team just isn't built right.

The core guys are not dominant enough to overcome the complete lack of identity of the bottom 6. The bottom 6 is being coached to play the same way the top 6 are and it's stupid. Goes for the defence as well - if your name isn't Rielly or Sandin, stop making dangerous plays to create offence.

Watch da Sportsnet highlight package for first 30 seconds it is all you need to see .. watch Couture racing down ice and come from 10 foot behind and pass his man Matty by blue line .. it was a foot race .. and our guys Holl and Matty got taken to cleaners rinsed and spit on because they are flat out TOO SLOW .. it epitomized entire game

When I read:
The team just isn't built right.

It came across as:
The team just isn't built right.
The team just isn't bilt right.
The team just isn't blt right.
The team just isn't bt right.
The team just isn't b right.
The team just isn't bright.

We're 4-3-1. Started last year 3-4-1. Everyone reeeeeelax.
Last year we had great underlying numbers and it was pretty obvious that a cold streak from our top guys was the issue. We were the better team on most nights last season.

We've been the better team in, what, 2/8 games this year? Against some terrible teams. The underlying numbers so far are middle to bottom of the pack. I'd say we're lucky to have 4 wins, tbh.

During the playoffs, Babcock's top line of Marleau-Plekanec-Marner would put the current Matthews line to a halt. One thing about Babs was he got most of his guys going every single game.

I'm not sure they even dislike losing. Marner was talking about how great everyone felt, and said they always feel great
Someone needs to really pull Marner aside and give him media training. It’s amazing how often he says these kinds of things lol

But yup, you see other contenders and how much disdain they have for losing. Tampa lost in brutal fashion and made it their mission to never feel that again. When the Avs lost to VGK in 2021 Mackinnon was so clearly pissed and carried that with him

We don’t have that fire

We are 1 injury (in any position, take your pick) away from draft lottery discussions

Of all the years to get an unexpected lottery pick, this would be a good one.

Look at us giving Montreal, Arizona and San Jose wins. We're playing chess not checkers, gang.

Dubas should of forced Muzzin to LTIR last year and then come back for the playoffs
Dubas should of forced Anderson to LTIR the year before

I’ll never understand how shit like this doesn’t have this team wanting to come out of the gate every game wanting to crush their opponents.

Maybe it's the laid back California attitude, or perhaps they are still chuckling over whoever won the pool on guessing how many f-bombs Keefe dropped during his pregame pep talk?
