A player like Niku would certainly help there with his speed and puck moving abilities and yet he's being wasted in the AHL. Maurice lives back in the days where all the players had to be 6"2++. At first he gets rid of their smartest defender (Heinola) and now he simply refuses to use his other asset that would almost certainly make the team better. The stubbornness and stupidity of this coach is just something. No wonder he's breaking records of the most lost games in the league.

Well they did send down (in your words their smartest defender in Heinola, whatever that means) and have had that success in that 4 game samle.

What exactly is the reasoning for bringing up Niku?

Winning games isn't the same as making the team better and that's the discussion here. For instance the other night they were able to beat the Canucks but the struggle at their own end lasted about the whole 60 minutes. Being unable to get the puck moving was evident throughout the game and it could have ended either way. The last thing any contending team wants is for games to turn into a lottery and hope that their goalkeeper is standing on his head night in night out.

I got the same vibes from the NYR vs CAR game where the Canes just pushed hard and pressured the Rangers to the point where they could barely escape from their own zone (yet still won the game as well). There's room for improvement and there's more than likely room for one Niku.
