Not sure I agree that he's really been lighting the hockey world aflame in the seven games since this thread was created. He has 6 points over that time -- 5 goals 1 assist. Of the 5 goals, 1 was at ES, 3 were on the PP and 1 was an empty netter. His assist was also on the PP. He's definitely looked a little more confident lately, but he still doesn't seem like the same player as last season to me. He was actually a pretty smooth skater for a big guy last season -- he looks plodding now. As I said earlier in this thread, I have no doubt Laine will resume his ascent to elite offensive player (probably sooner than later), but I'm not sure any kind of gloating is called for just yet.

You make it sound like earning 6 points in as many games is easily done in the NHL.

Yeah Laine is a GOD, him getting 6 points in 7 games is below his standard.

The thread title is correct then ;)

looks like this was premature

No! How it could be so? HFB has so long average memory in terms of games played that it is absolutely clear that the one dimensional pure shooter PP and EN-specialist bust cannot make 5 games goal-streak, when it is made as a canon how bad he is by HFB main boards thread of fancy, but relevant naming for the needs of recency...

Of course, next 4 games can be goalless, and that would't mean anything. Anything at all. In the big picture.

Is Laine still not that good? He is now up to a 46 goal pace from 34 when the thread was started. He's just ok I guess.

Laine is an elite goal scorer. He doesn't do much else. But he's an elite goal scorer.

Laine has goals in 8 of 16 games played this season. 50% of games played. 9 in 16 overall and he is still 19. Now 45 in 89 NHL games as a teenager.

Still maturing and growing into that big frame, at 19 years of age. In two years (or less) Laine is going explode in to a big heaping mess.......of goals.

This is the truth.

As big of a pissing match Leafs/Jets fans get over between Matthews/Laine, our franchises would be so many steps back without other either player.

Agreed, both teams got lucky and won the lottery.....this has helped both teams tremendously with their rebuilds.

I think this thread is a lesson that people shouldn't get themselves whipped into a fury of hype. When your expectation of a 19-year old is that they are better than Ovechkin and Stamkos, of course a 40 goal pace is a disappointment.

Laine is simply tremendous. We got so lucky jumping the lottery for him.

As far as I am concerned The Jets won the lottery this draft. They were not even that bad a team but jumped from 7 to 2 to steal what would be a 1st OA pick in some year's drafts.

All his points are easy chump points. He's like the next Jason Allison.

Laine's a 19 year old Jason Allison with a much better shot. In the day of overrating players. Jason Allison with a better shot is a refreshing new low down description.

He could be referred to as Mike Bossy with more size. Or a 18-19 year old Ovie. But Allison with a better shot will do just fine today. LOL

Jets sure did win the lottery with Laine.

Laine in a bad year is a 30 goal scorer. His shot is so good that he doesn't have to do anything else and he'll still get 30 goals. I said it last year and I'll say it again, to become elite he needs to improve skating and create more scoring chances for himself. But his shot is so good even if he doesn't improve you can count on him for 30 every year. A poor year for him will be better than most of 90% of the league. He's also an above average passer. His assists don't show it but if you watch him he makes some amazing passes.

To the guy that said even though he has 5 goals in last 5 games it's not that impressive, you obviously haven't watched any of his games. He could have easily had 3-4 more. Against Vegas you knew from the first period he was going to score that game. He could have easily had two more that game.
