Interested to see how other teams respond.

Wonder how this will change the landscape of the conference.

i feel like a few teams were going to target him but i can't understand why. can he even play at this level anymore?

Sutter didn't play him much as the season went on, then he went to the minors, and now he's been traded with so many conditions that he probably won't meet them. So probably not is the answer to your question. But, right handed defensemen in hockey are like left handed pitchers in baseball; someone will probably give that guy every chance to fail completely.

The Kings have had young defensemen playing very well and Gilbert became expendable. Nothing more, nothing less from a Kings perspective.

The only question mark for us is the experienced RHD since it appears Greene is done, maybe for good. But Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez are the experienced 'vets' now so.

Gilbert should thank the Lord. Going to the team with the best overall record, and having a fair chance to go to the Cup.

Kings have Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, Forbort, Gravel, LaDue and McNabb as the top 7D, all better options than Gilbert who was earning $1.4M and buried in the minors.

I wouldn't consider trading Tom Gilbert as "calling it quits." Now if they moved one of their signed vets for picks and prospects, that would be more like a sign of that.

The real question is how does the NHL allow this to be legal? It could end up being the Kings paying part of his salary to play for another team with nothing in return. That's a joke.

The bigger joke is this post. Did you just start watching hockey? Trades like this have taken place for many years, even predating the salary cap.

Good depth move for Hershey, giving the Bears another D in Bowey's absence. Gilbert has NHL experience, so he could be a #8D. He's easily better than Mike Weber.

The player still gets paid, the Kings are willing to probably take nothing in return except a little more cap space, the Caps have a player on the depth chart, and any team could've had Gilbert if they wanted. What's the problem? All the bases seem to be covered.

It's a future considerations deal. It's a trade that has happened in every league forever.
