Mega kudos for KPD for his column. I don’t often agree with his views but he was right to call out the pair of boobs running the organization.
unable to read the column behind one of those paid firewalls but sounds like it`s an article I`d like and like yourself, been a while since I read or heard an offering from KPD I liked, wish I could have read this one

I find the Boston media lodge “writing harshly” at the bruins mgmt old boys club to be like two opposing country club grumps complaining about each other’s parking spots.

You’re both obnoxious, been around too long are dialsengenuous and quite frankly annoy me.

Oh totally, but its still funny.

As for how he's replaced Chara - he drafted, developed and locked up McAvoy.

Their #1 D is 24 years old. Their #1 G is 23. . .

I see where you're coming from with McAvoy, and Sweeney deserves full credit for him. But that's not what I'm getting at. Chara and Miller's departures took away a lot of toughness and physicality from our back end that hasn't been replaced - McAvoy was already here. They and Krug also took away leadership that I don't think Chucky and Carlo have fully been able to provide to the same extent on their own. Would you deny that our defense has become too soft? Or that it has sometimes looked rather rudderless?

I'm curious too - in Neely's position would you give Sweeney a new contract?

wow, 2 good moves in 7 years...get the duckboats ready.

Doesn't outweigh getting handed a team with:

29 yr old 1C
28 yr old 2C
18 yr old 1RW
29 yr old 2RW
26 yr old 1LW
26 yr old 2LW
27 yr old 1G
21 yr old 2D
23 yr old PP specialist 3/4D

Which already had 1 Cup and an additional Finals under their belts the 4 years prior to him taking the job...then proceeding to systematically run it into the ground

I hear you and had serious doubts about moving on from Chara and Krug, Miller too. That said, the defense looks pretty stacked right now building around McAvoy and Lindholm long term. They look set for years in goal too.

As for being rudderless, the coach's number one job is to point their roster in the right direction.

You forgot to add had 3 consecutive picks in round 1 of the same draft to help build upon the already solid core he inherited. It should have been paint by numbers in building around this core to help it have multiple serious Cup runs. Instead, ended up with 1 Cup run due to a lot of luck, and a roster in which the coach was having to decided whether to play a decrepit pylon over Karson freaking Kuhlman at a key position. Otherwise it has been 2nd round exits or worse. Unreal that anyone can defend keeping these front office buffoons.

I'd say the defense looks ok rather than stacked. Top pair, Lindholm and McAvoy, big tick, as long as Lindy can stay healthy. 3rd pair, Forbort and Clifton, fine. If Reilly sticks around (doubt it) there's another 3rd pair option. Maybe Ahcan. Zboril I like. But can he be any more than another 3rd pair player? Still lots to prove there. Lohrei and the rest in the prospect pool, well we'll see. Still, so far so good.

But right now the 2nd pair is very problematic. Gryz is a great regular season player but I think it's now been definitively established that in the playoffs he just doesn't have it. And if you can't perform when it matters most, it has to be asked, what's the point of you? And Carlo has become a liability with his likely post-concussion issues. Not his fault, but it is what it is. Can he get back to his best? Huge question mark. As I said, maybe in time you get Zboril in there, maybe Lohrei. But it's uncertain.

And even beyond the number of players in the mix, there are issues. The defense as a group needs to be tougher. It doesn't necessarily have to be bigger, but it needs players who are better able to use body and strength to their advantage and make opposing forwards pay a price. It needs to be better at moving the puck in transition. And it needs to contribute more to the offense and get better at getting dangerous shots/slap passes through from the point.

Lots there that needs work. I'm not completely pessimistic. There are some good/great pieces there and things you can build around/improve upon. But the needs/issues will require some creative managerial/coaching work to address, and some luck. Could turn out great, could also easily not.

I saw a graphic this morning that was mind-blowing to me.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be playing in their FIFTH (5th) Stanley Cup Final in team history. Since their inception in the 1992-93 season, only the Detroit Red Wings have been to more Finals. Since the ‘93 playoffs, the Bruins have been to the Final three times, winning once.

If the Lightning win the Cup this year, that will be their fourth Cup win in 29 seasons. Our Boston Bruins have six Cups in 97 seasons - and ONE in the last FIFTY (50!!!) seasons.

I find myself coming here to vent more and more. If this were a normal business and not one of the NHL’s flagship franchises, Jeremy Jacobs would have lost his shirt and been forced to sell years ago.

Jacobs; Neely; and Sweeney are negligent and incompetent, respectively.

I am looking forward to the day we say farewell to Mr. Jeremy Jacobs. Maybe then the Bruins won’t be outclassed by an expansion team from Florida anymore.

The problem here is that the Bruins are set up to roll right along after JJ's demise into the hands of his "lucky sperm club" offspring. They know/care little to nothing about pro hockey and/or the Bruins. They're in Buffalo collecting the fans hard earned money with little care about how any of us feel about the team. They have no interest in the history or future of the team EXCEPT for the doe-ray-me that they get for doing nothing except being Jacobs's. This franchise is set up to being a sustainable money machine indefinitely. We the fans will feed this family forever.

Unfortunately after JJ goes to to hell he will be replaced by his nonentity son Charlie. :(
