The Bedard kid looks great but who knows how good he will actually be once he starts playing in the NHL.

I wouldn't do this trade because they team that gets screwed might just be the Bruins.

Generational talents (depending on your definition) never fail unless due to injury. Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, Lindros, Crosby, McDavid. To me, those are the generational players I have seen in my lifetime. I didn't need to see Howie Morenz or Eddie Shore or Rocket Richard to know they were the generational players of their era. (I'm not as old as @Gee Wally)

I think the term generational is used to loosely. Sometimes, elite talent gets tagged as generational. Nathan MacKinnon sometimes gets tagged with that (mostly by Avs fans and media). Generational is suppose to be a player that comes around once in a generation. Yet, we were lucky enough to see Gretzky/Lemieux and Crosby/McDavid and soon to be McDavid/Bedard.

But you're right, Bedard can be the first to fail at the NHL level. But we know how good he is now and I certainly would not bet against him.

Charlie McAvoy , Linus Ullmark and Jake DeBrusk for Bedard

As noted here last week, of all the contracts Sweeney has written on the current roster, only David Pastrnak and Hampus Lindholm hold no-trade guarantees. Everyone else is in play, including franchise back liner Charlie McAvoy and sure-shot Vezina winner Linus Ullmark, if Sweeney cares or dares to make a legit Bedard bid. If he sweetened the pot with, say, Jake DeBrusk, then it’s a package that has the potential to catch Davidson’s ear.

The Blackhawks, who plummeted this season as part of a tank ploy to acquire Bedard, immediately would be back in the West’s wild-card mix. But Davidson could have a back line headlined by a pair of right-shot defensemen, Seth Jones and McAvoy, along with the presumptive Vezina winner and a speedy winger who just produced a career-high 50 points.

A year from now, Davidson could entertain the idea of signing Auston Matthews, his deal expired in Toronto, as the Blackhawks’ franchise center. Matthews would be 26 on July 1, 2024. Ditto for McAvoy.

The Bruins would be left to move forward with Bedard, who’d arrive as their most highly touted prospect since Thornton, signed to a budget-friendly, entry-level contract. Sweeney also would have shoveled $18.5 million in cap dough out the door, maybe 30 percent of which would go to Jeremy Swayman (RFA with arbitration rights) as his new No. 1 goaltender. Swayman and second-year pro Brandon Bussi would be the new tandem.

Of the other 10-12 clubs squeezed tight for financial elbow room, none could rival a McAvoy-Ullmark-DeBrusk offer. The Hurricanes could entice the Blackhawks with slick center Sebastian Aho, only 25, as a substitute for McAvoy as the package’s crown jewel, but not come close to matching the Ullmark-DeBrusk portion.

Aho also stands a year from unrestricted free agency, while McAvoy’s deal, at $9.5 million per year, won’t term out until the spring of 2030. Length matters.

If I was B's management looking for a trade partner, I would call the Sens since they have quality Centers and need a goalie and we have an abundance of those. I would not trade 3 of my best players for 1 player no matter who that player is! Especially not McAvoy who I don't believe for a second to be worth his salary but what would be left on D for the Bruins after Lindholm, the thought is scary as hell!

I think Chicago would laugh at Sweeney if he made that offer, and if the Bruins were the greatest team of all time ,surely losing Charlie wouldn’t mean they now sucled.Lol

Man, this dude really has lost his fastball. I mean, he's been jaded as f*** for a long time now, but he's posting absolute insanity at this point. Time for Kevin to hang up his typewriter, he's clearly cooked.
couldn`t have said it better myself

LOL, Bedard has the potential to be a top-ten player all time.
His low end potential is a Joe Sakic or Mike Bossy type player.

They aren't trading that pick for anything.

On a bad Hawks team where he will get first line minutes and first PP minutes out of the gate, 40 goals and 100 points is possible for him next year.

I dont think it's such a bad offer.
25 yr old #1 stud defenseman
Vezina caliber goaltender
26 year old top 6 wing

If Chicago had any real good center prospects, or prospects for finding a couple good centers then I could picture it getting done.

Bedard looks like a freak, but a lot can happen between draft day and the NHL.

You know what they say about potential... besides Chicago screwed up their handling of Dach already. If they haven't learned their lesson about puttinv too much on young centers too quickly then they could be better off with a more fleshed out roster.

There have been plenty of first round, even first overall, busts.

(From none other than Milt Schmidt calling Greg Joly the next Bobby Orr, to Doug Wickenheiser, to Alexandre Daigle, to Nail Yakupov, on and on).

I don't know the first thing about Bedard, other than he's the consensus first overall pick, but I do know that there are no guarantees.

I can also argue the other side, and say that I remember plenty of stories about a six foot, 185 pound kid with a funny name, Gretzky, who was definitely "too skinny, and too slow, to make it in the big, fast, NHL."

No one is denying that. Its fact. But in Bedard the talk is generational talent not just a first overall pick.

Hmmm, a few good players in their late 20s or the next Conner Mcdavid. The marketing a player like that brings to your franchise alone is enough to make this proposal laughable.

Putting myself in the shoes of a Blackhawks' fan I would likely consider finding another team if management did something as stupid as the proposed trade.

McAvoy is a top-tier NHL d-man, but he is not the best in the NHL. Also, it's not like his salary is some ultimate NHL bargain. Ullmark is coming off a huge regular season and bad playoffs. Not a goalie that has proven much in his career (.888 career playoff save pct isn't impressive). And Jake, as much as I like him, moves the needle nowhere in a trade for a potential generational talent.

KPD was really reaching for something to write when he came up with this foolishness.

Blackhawks in are in no position to be trading for compete-now players. They're rebuilding and have a chance to reboot and create the next iteration of their franchise around this kid Bedard.

He isn’t your typical first overall pick ,kids going to be a Starr.

After the way he played in these playoffs not sure I agree anymore.

Until Bedard plays game in the NHL I would hold off on calling him a generational talent, odds are he won't be. Far and few between.

Plus give me a team of solid players sprinkled in with a few stars and a good coach and Im good.

Generational talents are equivalent to me of winning the president trophy every year ,lots of goals and points and highlights on TSN but not many championships.

Chicago will be lucky if he's as good as Mathews.

Kid is a stud ,PERIOD! Not a guy still playing I would trade him for that plays D, NONE

I hope the summer gets way better than this with proposed / speculated trade offer because no-way in hell would this ever happen, makes me wonder thou what KPD username is on HFboards because anyone who would speculate Chicago would move such a draw and franchise player like Bedard has been playing xbox or whatever the games are now or been reading hfboards way to much in their spare time.

I wasn't talking about your typical first overall pick, (the Owen Nolan's, Taylor Hall's, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' of the world), I was talking about the hugely hyped, "next all-time great", "can't miss", picks that didn't pan out.

The hype for Daigle was huge. No different at all from Bedard. Teams accused of tanking to get him, (to the point of an NHL investigation that led to the creation of the lottery). Ottawa giving him the largest entry contract ever, leading to the rookie salary cap, teams trying to trade established stars for the pick, on and on.

I am with you on McAvoy , solid D-man although I think someone posted his contract is out of line and I agree to much . I also am Of the mind to trade a Vezina trophy goaltender not because of his playoff performance but need a of cap space and because they have a solid replacement . DeBrusk could be traded , I am not sure but if he is he does have value coming off a 27 goal season and is only 26 .
