Promised Monahan that if the Habs were not in the playoff race and if they weren’t in a position to offer him a contract, they’d trade him to a contender.
Still not sure what he means by "weren't in a position to sign him to a fair contract for him."

Hoping it means if Monahan doesn't get a certain level of dollar in the summer, the door is open for him to come back at a team friendly salary level.

this PP now is worse.... top 5 pick here we come

Chiarot = 1st round pick
Toffoli = 1st round pick
Lehkonen = Barron (recent 1st round pick)
Romanov = 1st round pick
Monahan = 2 1st round picks

Remember the Bergevin days where it seemed so impossible to get a 1st? Lol.
and those picks turned back to the habs??

Remember when it was impossible to trade for top six centres and Hughes did it twice (Monahan and Dach)

Hopefully it means they talked to his agent and the asking price/term was too much to lock in at this point.

I dont understand your complaining. So if they acquire picks and use them thats wrong, but if those picks are not used to draft players and that's wrong too? Cmon man this is a W

About Savard: had no discussion with the player about a trade. Is not currently trying to trade him but then again, says he’s open to trading any player that improves the team (typical political answer).

Mid call in french he also said he felt closer to the deadline there would be more sellers and more options and thus why he felt the time was now.

He cited Ekhlom as somebody who wasn't available last year but then suddently was when his team became a seller last minute. He also gave another specific example from last year.

No offers were received of a pick AND a prospect, it was either or. He said most teams didn't want to offer a 1st for a pure rental.

They asked for specific prospects, in all cases, they were told not available for a rental.
Teams that were pretty well locked into a playoff spot were stupid. Unless they don't have much in their prospect pool. A low 1st isn't much to give up.

Hughes all but confirms he traded Monahan now because of injury risk. he's saying there's a risk with any player. But really...
Exactly.. he said there is always a risk in waiting (he did not want to say injury, he added that there is also a risk of the market changing), and he did not think there was going to be a much better offer down the road so he pulled the trigger.

When asked who was going to take his place, he answered the whole team will have to step up. That was a weird answer, because the 'whole team' can't take faceoffs?

The rest of the questions were just totally dumb. FG asking if he talked to David Savard about trading him, and he got the usual answer that no he did not, but if someone offered McDavid, he would listen. Seriously, like he was going to say openly who he is trying to move, or if he talked to player x, y, z about moving them...

He said he was glad to keep the retention spot.

Wonder who he hopes to use it on:

Savard?
Allen?
Armia?
Pearson?
Anderson?
gallagher?
