To be fair he was supposed to be a minute eater replacement for Emelin, not a replacement for 50-60 point Markov (that player no longer existed anyway at that point, as demonstrated with his KHL play after he left). But the actual choice of Alzner was a pretty big failure by pro scouting.

That's fair about Alzner vs Emelin. Still it's embarassing that the Habs pro scouting team/Bergevin thought Alzner was a good acquisition to the roster. Not only that, correct me if I'm wrong, but Alzner was a prime Bergevin target, with numerous rumors linking him to the Habs. Even as a deadline add. He was seen as a fit and a good choice for a long time IIRC.

It's not fair for Markov who was the #1 Dman on his team in points in his first KHL season, with a better ppg than his 2004-2005 season in the Russian league while he was starting his prime. He would have played as a 35-40 pts Dman for a season IMO and he would have faded away after that. Remember that the NHL was his comfort zone. To not acknowledge the impact of losing him without proper replacements and stating that the dmans will be a stonger group with Alzner, is crazily bad for Bergevin record.

It would be nice for Alzner to think about his family and just retire.. Niskanen is doing it.

no that old dog just want his money.. I get it MB was freaking sleeping at the wheel to give him this contract.. but when Alzner skips the nhl return because of family reasons and covid he should just retire and give us the favor after the luxury of that long stoopid butty contract...

he wouldnt have stayed in the NHL regardless of the team he simply was TERRIBLE.

he was damaged good and MB didnt do his job. come on Alzner retire already have some decency here.

he and his wife just had a kid a year or so ago, can't fault the guy for wanting to collect his 5M, blame the person that gave him over 23M on his contract.

Can habs not package/move him somehow and absorb some of his cap? If that is really the case, he should have some decency and retire, does he not see that he is being a selfish prick in handcuffing the team that gave him a lucrative pension plan? He reminds of those people that abuse social assistance, staying on it forever and don't give a dam what other people think of them:rant:

They could bury him in the ECHL for all I care, the contract is on Bergevin.

This guy screams LTIR. If Robidas could be completely erased from the face of the earth, so can Alzner.

The Habs would never do that imo, the league would surely look into it just as they did Hossa and others.
I think if they needed the space they would and could. The reality is every player in their 30s could get a doctor to say they can't play hockey any more. By that point in their careers most players have some kind of back/knee/shoulder/wrist/hand injury that would cause a doctor to tell an average person to stop playing contact hockey and stick to casual beer league.

I doubt it would take much to get him to agree with a plan that lets him go home and take 6M over the next two years instead of going through the motions in some bizzare AHL year that won't start until January.

And if the NHL looks into and says he's not injured and we get fined with loss of draft picks and money? I just don't see it happening.
