First off, that was the worst ice I've seen all year. I've never seen the puck die so much at a hockey game. Literally snow piling up while puck handling in some places. That's not good hockey ice.

As for the game, much more chippy than I expected for a non conference game, but maybe a good prelude for what's in store tomorrow. I liked the respect Paul Maurice paid to the Jets in his pregame interview. If you ask me what I like more about Bones team, it's the special teams, and they were a saw off in this game.

Mark Scheifele still doesn't get the recognition he deserves, he played a great game tonight.

Nice to see Nik getting back in stride, that's the kind of secondary offense this team needs. Wheeler winning draws leading to goals, Namestnikov scoring dirty goals, I like it.

I thought the checking was really good tonight, some big hits, a lot of good battles, on bad ice they played the right kind of way, with a lot of in close support, to wear down opponents. The goal they had scored against them though was an example of too much pressure down low, leaving a 4-2 the other way when the puck died off the boards.

4th line wasn't all that good. Stenlund had some good shifts. Gustafsson had some misplays.

Defense had some struggles.

Losing Morrissey for any length of time will hurt this team, but you have to have the next man up mentality in hockey, like war.

Dillon at times looked slow, De Melo at times looked physically overmatched.

Pionk had another one of those games, where there are some WTF moments, and then he goes out and makes a big play. So I don't know how you rate a guy like that. He's going need to be steadier on this road trip, especially if he's going to be the #1 for a few games.

Hellebuyck had the game the team needed to get a big win.

There's going to be some ice packs after this game, it was physically intense, and then right back at it.

I hope Bones brings in a couple of fresh guys for what could be a battle tomorrow.

Mark Scheifele still doesn't get the recognition he deserves, he played a great game tonight.

It's crazy that his episode with Evans is now his defining moment. Meanwhile, a perennial 30-40 goal scorer, who once literally flummoxed the ACTUAL ENTIRE PHWA when he got an 'unsportsmanlike conduct' penalty for the FIRST TIME IN HIS CAREER, is being portrayed by a simpleton fringe as, somehow, worse than the cross product of Bergeron and Tom Wilson.

I'm f***ing serious

How is it that any human on earth can judge Chef that way, when Tom f***ing Wilson is still allowed to play in the league? After grabbing a player by the f***ing hair and ramming him head-first into the ice? For like his, what, EIGHTH suspendible offense?

But OH NO, Scheifele failed to have some Six Million Dollar Man reflexes built into his muscles, actual physics be damned.

Yeah, okay.

As long as Tom Wilson is allowed to play another NHL game, I don't f***ing want to hear about Scheifele.

I’ve been a big fan of Schiefs play the past week or so. We haven’t always been great but I feel his commitment and effort has been there recently. I feel he’s done a lot to up his game. I’m the long run I’m not sure he leaves Winnipeg. And if he does, I think he may come back.
I’ve said it a few times now but I think Scheifele is the most likely of our Pending UFAs to stay and will be announced July 1st.

Is that 55 and 27 on the same line?

Chaotic but fun win -- second time at least this season I've described a game that way.

Is it possible that, for a few games at least, both the PP and PK can be good at the same time? Feels almost like they share a power source, so making one good drains all power from the other.

- Great games from Names, Nik and 55
- Helle stayed strong in the OT where it seemed the Jets were looking to give the game away
- No more 2-min shifts for you KFC or Pionk
- Gus used up all his speed in the early running
- Quickdraw Wheels
- Snakebite kit needed for Connor.

Hoping for good news on JMo and Lowry too. Tough to lose both before TBL.

My quick three cents as we head out the door. (Disclaimer: I missed the second period and chunks of the third.)

The referees seem determined to always balance out the penalties, regardless of who mugged who in a scrum. I'm told by my parents that the NHL actually has a "third man in" penalty but I've never seen it called.

Why is Appleton on the roster but Axel is not? Appleton arrives a half step late for most plays, seems to avoid contact, and shoots like a girl. (Actually, half our Olympic women's team have better shots.) He may be a defensive specialist or brilliant on the PK, but I see him as a detriment. Even error-prone Gus-Gus has a better upside.

Logan is so big and hits so little and moves so slow. I'll take Samberg being caught out of position over Logan.

Rhetorical whine: why do we play so well and lose games and then serve up a mess but get 2 points?

What was with all the empty seats?
Was Gloria Estefan in town?
They have a lounge area where people in this section watch the game. I'm surprised they haven't switched it up because optically it looks bad.

They've been over 16k this year which is up almost 2k per game

If only we could be like leaf fans and think every win is a cup win but Scheiffle, Helly and Ehlers play was a good sign and Nonamastov had 2 G's! Still hard to be happy because this team does not play playoff hockey
Good analysis Johnny. I agree whole heartedly with you that this is the start of a long win streak for the Jets. I would not doubt it if they win out. It will give the Jets a whole lot of momentum going into the playoffs.

Which is the other rink that has the lounge area where everyone seem to congregate?

That's part of the issue with Mason "He could have had" Appleton. I think that he is played too high up on the lineup.
