Agreed. I've been saying for a year now that Dahlin's ELC is a window we can't squander. But this accentuates that. We're paying for the first half of this contract, and we're paying for it in the last half. Time to start winning.

Ideally it would be a bit lower, but Skinner is a player with some demonstrably elite skills--the sort it's worth paying a premium for, especially when your team has a dearth of such players and you're not likely to get access to comparable talents in FA.

And again, the amount he's relatively overpaid versus his production both as a percentage of his annual salary and by raw dollar amount is below several players on the current roster who don't approach his level of contribution to the team.
