Is Peyton Krebs a bust?

Krebs seems to me to be an adequate 4th line defensive specialist with little offence to contribute, who on some teams would be an injury replacement rather than 4th line regular. That's clearly a disappointing role for someone drafted with a mid-1st round pick, but I consider a bust someone who can't play in the league. As I see it he can, so imo he is merely a disappointment, not a bust.

I wasn't a fan of him on draft day due to his style of getting points not meshing with the NHL too much, but if he can figure out the NHL game he's got a creative mold to him but he's a kid who was always a long shot to be a high production player at the NHL level. His trajection needed to sweep upwards and it's more maintained what was expected, in my opinion.

for me the only thing that even matters for determining if someone is a "bust" or not is what the team that actually drafted them got out of them whether that takes the form of games played for them or some sort of trade return, what they did for a later team is irrelevant for that label since they aren't the ones that drafted him

as a key part of the Eichel trade he can never be a bust no matter what he does at this point

What you are saying makes no sense. If you trade a star player for a prospect (who ends up being no good) then he is absolutely a "bust" player

Vegas is the one that actually drafted him though and is the perspective that should be looked at when trying to determine if he's a "bust"

a 17th overall being a key part of a trade for a star player doesn't at all sound like a bust to me

Watched him play a bit in junior and honestly not shocked at all. There was always a very good chance he would never be more than a pretty good bottom 6er.

They moove him from LW to full time 4C this year with no pp. no bust here

Since Middlestad trade he get moore ice time with scoring linemates and get more assist

Need to bulk a bit, looks thin, Krebs can develop into a good middle 6c when he will be 25-26, notting wrong with a 2-3C 40-45 pts center at 17 OV

It's very difficult to gage a players abilities when they are on the Sabres. Since Pegula bought that team they've been a rudderless ship. 1st yr nhl coach after 1st yr nhl coach failures isn't helping the players that are on that roster any to be sure.

I don't think the door has shut at all on Krebs as a long-term top 6 player. Looking at his stats, you do have to "adjust for Buffalo". Based on his time in junior I'd say he brings a lot of off-ice leadership potential and those types of intangible but still meaningful contributions.

He was talked about as a Top10 pick on the prospect board in his draft year and ppl were saying he was a draft steal

Seems like an average bottom6'er with little offensive upside at this point
If a player is ranked top 10 and that's 9th/10th and that player is drafted 14th HF goes crazy saying that's a steal.

Krebs has a hot mom.

Bust. Supposed to be this crazy high vision/IQ playmaker who does nothing but soft backhand passes into traffic.

Playing nhl games doesn’t exempt a player from bust. Lineup spots will be filled one way or another. First round picks get a lot of runway to play nhl games even when they perform poorly. Similarly, bouncing around and becoming a decent player at age 27 on your third team doesn’t mean you were a useful pick for the team that picked you.

The best value of draft picks is that they can provide really good cost-value during years in which they are restricted and that the drafting team holds the inside track to extend really high-level talent throughout their primes. Ask yourself how well a prospect fulfills those two criteria to determine if and to what extent they are a successful pick.

The Buffalo amateur scouting department should get shot out into the sun.
This guy was the key prospect that they were targeting in the Eichel deal; Calgary was offering a future's trade in that deal which would have been picks, prospects and a young NHLer.

I guess Tuch was good last year if that makes things better.

Will fix everything
His usage hasn't been great.

Ever since the Mittelstadt trade he's been playing quite a bit with Skinner, but his ice time hasn't really increased much.

As a Sabres fan, I have zero issue moving him out this summer as part of a deal. My guess he gets a million chances because of who he was traded for, however.

Kulich is going to push him out of a roster spot unless he gets it together. Probably tops out as a 3rd line wing, atleast on Buffalo

I mean, the other guy the Knights were offering instead was Elvenes who went on to being *checks notes* a waiver claim and is out of the NHL. So if they're going to catch a round for things, they did get the better of those two offers.
