It’s fair but it’s also a retirement contract and will likely be pretty bad at some point. Hopefully it’s year 6 and not year 3 when it gets to be bad though.

Voted no, but I think it had to be done with what they've been doing this offseason. Also I'm assuming they'll have him in year 7-8 instead of trading him as a cap dump but it's not what people are making it out to be.

True scholars of contract evaluation like me would like to know where the “LOL” option is.

I’m assuming the lawyers all did their jobs and yes it’s a good contract.

Terrible joke aside I’d say it not good or bad. If I vote no, people will assume it’s bad. Is fair the same as good?

Neutral.

He could have gotten it from just about any team in the league. It’s good they got him locked up and pretty much means they won the Tkachuk deal now.

I’ll say no because it will almost certainly be an anchor, but honestly I’m fine with it. I couldn’t stand losing 3 stars in the span of 2 yrs

Well if you go by the old rule of 100k/point, we're in the clear. Technically, by this rule, he is an 11.5m AAV player. However, I think that it's more like 125k/point now, so this is a bargain on AAV IMO.

Using comparables for players 4 years from UFA...

When Huberdeau is 4 years away from UFA, I predict this contract will be Bobrovsky level of bad, but not Price level bad or Vlasic bad. If Calgary is lucky, it will only be Mikheyev / Pageau / Deslauriers bad. Saad or Trouba level is a win for Calgary IMO, all things considered.

It’s not a good contract in a vacuum, however calgary needed to offer that for him to stay, so Calgary had no choice. With that said, it seems Calgary won’t be a bad team or an elite team, just a good playoff team that can win a round or two at most.

10.5M for a 29 year old who has had 1, maybe 2 elite seasons and chokes every playoffs. Terrible contract.

Hell
It's fine. Not amazing, not terrible.

The 5+ years from now people are so worried about, is silly. It's difficult to predict what the Flames, Huberdeau, or the salary cap will be like then.

It’s a contract he was going to get from the market.

But at the same I would not have felt comfortable giving him that

It sucks

Flames better hope the cap is 100M+ during those later years or that he goes on LTIR.

I don’t think he’s worth 10.5 today

Just finished 2nd in scoring and is the 6th highest paid forward. How does that not at least seem fair today?

I personally voted "no" to it being a good contract due to longevity, but Huberdeau is among the elite in the NHL right now.
