Or is it still too early??? What are your thoughts, after the good stretch, the team is struggling again. I personally think its time to go young. Try and move some vets out.

They are already one of the youngest teams in the league.

The Canes are pretty young. This teams needs :
-to acquire a bit more depth at both ends, so that you don't end up with guys like Riley Nash on the 2nd line.
-solid, consistent goaltending
-Semin to get his **** together

Once you have all of that, Canes are playoff bound. As you guys always say, maybe next year

how things would be different with Jordan in the line up is an unknown but I suspect better of course. but, how much?

in my honest opinion, I haven't seen all that much in the whole scheme of things and I think that apart from some obvious improved hustle, the same issues are plaguing the team. little offense and poor defense. to me Ward has been the primary factor in them winning the games they have. not impressed so far but yeah its still relatively early.

I think they'll have to move Semin soon somehow. he just doesn't fit here IMHO. he won't ever be a grinder.

This would be a mediocre team even at full health and full production.

Blowing it up isn't the answer, because they're young already. They flat out need to acquire better players, especially when you have guys like Liles and Harrison skating significant minutes on D.

IMO Jordan would be good for several more wins. I know it sounds kinda dumb to say that about one player, but they've been very close to winning a lot of the games they didn't.

Hainsey regressing a bit has really hurt this team on defense, I agree. Faulk and Sekera have been hit or miss, and again, when they're off, the whole team suffers. They just don't have the secondary defenseman to cover for them.

1 - Draft McEichel
2 - ?????
3 - Profit

just hoping ????? isn't "move team to (insert city here)"

Agree with most of what WTF and Tarheel had to say. Healthy this team isn't bad, though it's not great either. There's no forward depth of the even passably top 6 variety right now and while our defense is a good bit deeper the depth is all low-end. The regression from Hainsey and to a lesser extent Bellemore has hurt. Gleason has rebounded a BIT, but not enough to say "ok this guy's a top 4 guy again", he never will be that guy again, but he is at least a capable 3rd pairing guy.

More then anything, we just need to land another stud or two in the draft, and for what we have in the pipeline not to blow up like what happened with Dalpe, Welsh, and Boychuk, though Boychuk's at least showing he might be turning a corner. At the very least on that front Fleury looks like a safe bet, and Rask is looking much better then expected.

One of McDavid or Eichel has the absolute ability to be a savior for this franchise, the same was Stamkos was in Tampa or dare I even say Crosby in Pittsburgh, but much like the Isles have shown with Tavares you're still only as good as the talent you put around your star.

I know the Eric for Gardiner//Kadri//1st thing has been beaten to death, but tbh I really think the '????' should be us trying to get a second 1st. Another lottery pick could really help this team, even if it doesn't turn into something tangible for a couple years.

The same reason another 1st would be great for us is the same reason other teams (particularly struggling teams like TOR) likely won't part with a 2015 1st.

I wanted to blow it up this offseason, but ultimately was willing to give Peters and Francis a chance when they got in for one last run at the playoffs with this group. My thinking was I wanted it blown up if this group failed again. Not over yet, but they're well on their way. If nothing else, I'd be laying the ground work for a blowup if we continue in the direction we've had for all but 6 games or so this year. How big just depends on if certain pieces that seemingly can't or won't want to be moved can be moved. It's going to be difficult to pull off and may just amount to shipping out free agents for prospects and picks.

No team in position to get one of these lottery picks is going to move their first for anything short of a ridiculous overpayment.

There's already probably going to be less draft picks involved at the trade deadline as a result of the quality of this draft. Bubble teams probably won't even want to move their firsts and no lottery team will.

What do you expect with Victor Rask as a top 6 forward, with Riley Nash as a second line center and guys like McClement, Gerbe and Dwyer getting close to top 6 minutes? We almost have no D - Sekera and Faulk are good pairing but not first pairing on serious contender and everyone else on that D pretty much belongs in AHL or beer league.

It'd be nice to get another lottery pick, sure, but just even having another first would be great. I posted once before about how we'd had about as few 1st rounders as anyone during Rutherford's tenure. I don't know if we have a deal in us to get one though. Depends on if Eric can be traded for a high return or perhaps Sekera goes in a bidding war and his value is driven up by the fact that almost any team can find a way to fit his low cap hit in. Or maybe getting some 2nds and putting them together.

The only way we come close to sniffing another 1st round pick is if we trade Sekera to a contender.

Prettymuch. VERY outside chance we can get one for Tlusty if he stays on the goal scoring streak he's on which isn't likely. That one's more likely a 2nd and a decent but not great prospect.
