if we can agree on the top 5, who is 6-12 guarenteed

I'd think as far as Esposito has fallen, he'll still be picked in the top 12.

I hate to be a firebrand, but I would say that any of those top five guys could slip to 6 or 7, but I digress. I'd say Gagner, Alzner, Esposito, and Couture are pretty much locks for the top dozen.

No one can assume anything, inlcuding that the 5 players listed are locks for the top 5 picks.
No one saw Wheeler go top-5 in '04 or Price in '05. You just don't know if a team is really high on a player and take him before anyone predicted.

i think most will agree Wheeler never belonged at 5 and Price does...

i just wondered based on ISS, and most mocks etc that their seems to be a top 5, maybe a top 7 then another 5 or 7 and i wondered if we could agree on who is the second tier

I agree about the top 5. I can only three top 5 locks : Kane, JVR and Voracek.
I'd even go as far as taking Alzner before Cherepanov and maybe even before Turris.

This doesn't look too bad, mine would probably look somethin like this:
1- Jakub Voracek (best overall player in the draft IMO)
2- James van Riemsdyk (been impressed with him for some time and a great U-18 I think raised his stock a bit)
3- Patrick Kane (incredibly skilled; size should not matter)
4- Kyle Turris (excellent scorer, an excellent package)
5- Alexei Cherepanov (scoring touch is 2nd to none in the draft -- something you can't teach)
6- Karl Alzner (the obvious best overall defender in the draft)
7- Sam Gagner (awesome playmaker with nice hands)
8- Logan Couture (great 2-way player; don't expect him to fall far)
9- Keaton Ellerby (big, strong, stay-at-home types like him are hard to pass on, especically in a "not-so-spectacular draft")
10- Maxim Mayorov (riser that I have a feeling someone will take a shot at early on)
11- Nick Petrecki (big and nasty with a blazing shot? I'll wager some money that he hasn't fallen as far on scouts' radars as people around here seem to think)
12- Angelo Esposito (seems people forgot that he still contains the portion boom from the phrase "boom or bust")
13- Joakim Andersson (the skilled swede has been rising)
14- Colton Gillies (2-way flyer may or may not find his offensive game, regardless, I have a feeling he wont take a free-fall)
15- Alex Plante (another big d-man; smart, reliable defender)

Honorable Mention: Mikael Backlund (has looked pretty good at the U-18 and IMO the knee injury isn't enough to make me forget about what many saw in him last year)

If the Blues keep the 9th pick, I don't think they'll take Ellerby. It's not out of the question, but Jarmo likes dominant forwards with his early picks and goes for sleeper project defenders later on. I don't doubt they'll take a defender with one of their three first rounders, but unless Alzner is still up, that 9th will likely be used on a high skill forward.

I think we might all be shocked a la Schremp in his draft. He plummeted way further than anyone had anticipated, including probaly Robbie himself.

There's no way Esposito falls that far. Anyone who has watched him play (and has managed to ignore the baseless opinions here about lack of character and work ethic) knows he's worth a top 15 pick if not a top 10.

I think Plante will fall into the late teens to early twenties.

I think Plante is going to be a surprise. There is going to be somebody in the Top 15 to be infatuated with his size and potential skill set that will take him. It only takes one team to fall in love with a prospect like Plante considering his immense potential. Same thing goes for Nick Petrecki.

I actually think Shattenkirk will fall like Bobby Sanguinetti did last year.
