Please document *one* example of an RFA being so offended by an initial offer that he left the team.
Ryan O'Rielly, Joe Sakic, Shea Weber, Sergei Federov, Mark Giordano, Dustin Penner... Need I go on? Remember, signing an offer sheet shows intent to leave the team. Just because the team has the right to match doesn't mean that the player wasn't ready to leave. Giordano especially as he actually left to play overseas. The rest were just ready to leave.

Joe Sakic was not upset at an initial offer. There WAS no initial offer. Rangers jumped the process when they came in hot with a record-breaking offer sheet, Sakic signed it for obvious reasons, and was he happy when the Avs matched it.

Sergei Fedorov negotiated with the Red Wings for an entire summer and over half the season before signing an offer sheet in February. It was anything but an "initial offer" situation.

Given that you're already on two strikes, I'm assuming the others are also invalid for various reasons.

Wow this BS again?!?! Can these clowns stop pushing a news story without giving all the details.

This was the offer from last October. Aho said I wanna see how this season goes and let’s not talk about it until then.

Yes he said no 6 months ago.
Timing is everything.

Ya, mods, how about a page-sticky or thread rename? Lots of posters being misled in here.

I could see a team preying on the Canes in hopes their owner is cheap. Aho fits the bill of a guy who a 10.5M deal might be slightly more than he is worth but won't cost you 4 first round draft picks

I think the canes match , the new owner doesn't really seem that cheap. In fact he seems to want to spend money on stupid things just cuz he is picky. (Bringing the blacks everywhere )

Aho is the face of their franchise and best offensive player. Their owner doesn't want them to draft defensemen cuz they are boring. Aho would get matched.

Lol. Black jerseys everywhere. I knew how it sounded after I posted it but cuz we are on a hockey forum I assumed it would be obvious cuz it was talked about over and over last year

Local Raleigh sports radio host said this week that Canes have a signing that he knew about that hasn't been released yet. Makes more sense to be internal rather than a UFA or else other insiders would know as well. My money is on Aho signing his new deal at the Canes big "Summerfest" event tomorrow. 8 years x $8.5 million.

Nope. It was in reference to the Darling buyout and it most likely was the Needaspellchek signing today. Everything the org has said seems to indicate that August is the time frame for the signing.

I haven't seen one source indicating August. Everything I've seen suggests that talks are ongoing and moving forward

One of the articles I read pre draft quoted Waddell saying "probably not June or July".

He's said similar things since.

Wednesday from ABC11:
"Canes fans might be stressing the signing of restricted free agent Sebastian Aho.

Waddell however, is not.

The two sides spoke in Vancouver during the weekend during the draft and Waddell is expecting to hear back this week.

That said, there is no timetable to wrap up contract discussions.

"This will get done at some point," Waddell said."

From the N&O:
"Waddell said again Tuesday that he talked with Aho’s agent and had a “great discussion” during last week’s draft in Vancouver, and that the talks would continue later this week.
“I have confidence we’ll get him signed ... before we start training camp,” Waddell said."

Are you for real? The fact that the Avs let Sakic get to that point is enough to tell you he was upset enough to sign an offer sheet. Are you do unaware of the process that you think the Rangers has first so on the offer? Did the Avs not have 1 year to get something done prior to RFA status? That’s jumping the process??? And then you go on to say that Federov tried to negotiate well into the season and you think he wasn’t ready to leave with an offer sheet?

Given that your arguments helped me prove my points on those two players alone, you can assume all others are valid for the same reasons. Unless you like contradicting yourself, I’d stop responding to the thread.
