I hate thieves

I hear ya.

I’m not too upset about anything they took but I’m super pissed knowing some piece of shit came into my yard and went through my stuff.

They got me for an iPod I’ve had since high school (I’m 30 now), a gps I haven’t used in years and a Bluetooth headset I got for free with my phone. They left in plain sight a car wash card that has over $100 loaded on it, the charging cords for every device they stole, and my new brake parts which were sitting in the backseat as I’m having my brakes done this week.

This city is a shithole. Huge divide between the well off and everyone else. There’s a huge portion of the population that walk the streets in pyjamas, collect welfare and sit at home doing drugs all day. The area is beautiful but the people are trash. Can’t wait to move.

That invasion into your space is the lasting effects of being robbed.

I was robbed in college, our apartment was hit, had our stereo and crap stolen. Lots of vhs tapes (lol), and other junk. But yeah, sucks ass.

I can’t imagine what it would feel like having someone come into your actual home.

Just realized they got my prescription sunglasses, too. Who takes that shit?

That's more upsetting than other stuff, you will need to go to the doctor again and order new ones. Probably they are not even good for the thieve, what a shit head.

I am sorry that this happened to you

Yep, it's the big reason I moved out of the neighborhood that I did. @garnetpalmetto can confirm that about 2-3 years ago there was a string of shady shit going on in the neighborhood. My house and car weren't one of the ones hit but my nextdoor neighbor on one side and one two doors down on the other were, that's when I just noped the f*** out of there.

Some slimy **** broke into my truck last night and took a bunch of ****.

I live in a good neighborhood and my parking is behind my house. Never thought someone would be so bold. They had to have been there for a while, too. Cleaned up a massive pile of change that had spilled in my center console.
Man that sucks dude. Sorry to hear that.

If it makes you feel better there was a string of robberies in my neighborhood recently too. My neighbor left his truck unlocked and some jackwad stole a pistol, a bit of ammo for the pistol, and upwards of $1000 in cash.

I was out of town for a week and got a notice that Amazon had delivered a package the day after I left. I wondered for the whole week whether that package would still be there when I got back.

Got home, no package waiting on me. I was mad because it probably sat there for a few days till a thief realized I wasn't home. Thankfully I remembered to lock my door, otherwise they might have walked right in.

But then, what a twist! My neighbor comes walking across the street carrying the Amazon box, says she saw it sitting in the rain after a few days and didn't want it to get messed up. On a normal day she probably would have just moved it inside the door, but unfortunately I had locked the door for security purposes. You gotta be careful, it's crazy out there.

I live a great middle class blue collar place, Dead End street with no cut throughs to other roads.

I still don’t have the trust of someone not trying.

The locks on my doors aren’t for my protection.

#canconfirm. There was also a rash of stuff one day this past fall but somebody had one of those Ring doorbells and caught video of the people breaking/leaving their house and that helped find them. @HankAnger also lives in that neighborhood and it's interesting - you can go a couple blocks one way and be in a not great part of Durham, then go two more blocks and be in gentrified Durham.

There's also the fact that USPS will sometimes mark Amazon packages as delivered even if they haven't been delivered yet - that happens with some degree of regularity and caused beaucoup threads on my neighborhood's NextDoor page about "OMG MY PACKAGES HAVE BEEN STOLEN! Oh, wait, never mind, the mailman just came by and dropped it off."

northwest cary has been break-in city the past year or so

at least, if nextdoor is to be believed.
if nextdoor is to be believed, American history in the 2010s will bear witness to 100% crime rates, endless waves of "shady looking people" walking down the street in broad daylight, an entire generation of dogs and cats escaping their domestic confines, and yard sales as far as the eye can see

And plumbers....everyone wants a good plumber referral. You'd think all the worlds toilets clogged every damn day.

We had a break in when I was in undergrad. The house had motion activated lights in the back.

After the break in my roommate and I set up speakers to activate instead of the lights, and had them play some really pissed off/aggressive dog noises.

If we were asleep we would always be woken up, but it was incredibly entertaining to hear people tripping over themselves trying to run away in the dark. Granted, due to our location, 95% of those people were probably *slightly inebriated* students who decided to take a short cut while walking back from a party, but man did it give us a few laughs.

Just bought a wireless security camera off amazon. Will set it up on my roof this weekend. Surprisingly cheap. Can even send notifications to my phone when motion is detected so I can send my girlfriend out to confront them.

Place “Smile, you’re on camera” signs, and they might steal your camera too!

I have a friend who worked part-time at a pawn shop while in college. During that time his fathers golf clubs were stolen. Dumbass tried to sell them at said pawn shop. Homeowner had a security camera that got his face, car, license plate, even the clubs themselves. Cops were called, easy arrest.
