I'd take Dubois. And probably get suckered. But he's the one who has youth on his side here. Just have to hope you get lucky with "Dubois actually trying" some years, more than not. He also brings Center value with Wing flexibility, which the other two do not. When he actually gives a shit, he's a darn good player.

He's also significantly cheaper than the other two contract boondoggles. Which is perhaps the biggest factor if i'm forced to take on a bad contract.

I'd also kind of wonder if JT Bozo might not be able to help get something out of Dubois. Though it could also backfire and infect Mercurial Pete, which would be catastrophic. So it's risky.

Gaudreau is i think the least risk of a "culture/attitude problem". But he's so expensive and i frankly just do not think he's the sort of player you can "build a winner" around. And at his price, you kind of have to. So he's out for me.

Huberdeau would actually probably look really darn good with JT Miller+Boeser. His game is made for playing with a duo like that. A powerful 2-way Center and a goal scoring shooter? I like the chances. But again, that contract is just really big. I don't see it as workable.

Dubois is the biggest attitude risk, but $8.5M is probably just becoming "2nd liner" money over the coming years. I'd just have to hope that getting to play with good players in a Top-6 role gets him going a little bit, and that sort of production and play isn't unreasonable to expect at least some of the time.

as an Avalanche fan I would reluctantly take PLD. He plays center, gets paid the least, and is the youngest. In this hypothetical I also assign perfect health to the roster, meaning Landeskog and Nichushkin bump Johnny Hockey & Huberdeau from getting PP1 time.

I'm pretty sure Gaudreau would play on the Avs top unit over Landeskog or Nuke.

PLD > Gaudreau > Huberdeau
I haven't watched much PLD this season but he's less than a year out from being awesome

Gun to your head, who do you choose for your team? Gaudreaus contract expires earlier so to keep everything even lets say from this season till the end of 2029.

Jonathan Huberdeau (W)

6'1", 200 lbs

Current season
48GP 6G 20A 26pts - Projected - 81-10-34-44

Career high - 115pts in 80 games
Career pace - 23g 50a 73 pts per 82
10.5m cap hit (expires in 2031)

John Gaudreau (W)

Age: 30 (Aug 1993)
5'9, 175

Current season
50gp 7g 25A 32pts - Projected 82 - 11 - 41 - 52

Career high 40g 75A 115pts in 82 games
Career pace - 28g 54A 82pts per 82

9.75m cap hit (expires in 2029)

Pierre Luc Dubois (C)

Age: 25 (June 1998)
6'3, 220

Current season

48gp 10g 10 a 20ts - Projected 82 - 17 -17-34

Career high - 27 g 36 A 63 pts in 73 games
Career pace - 24G 33A 57pts per 82

8.5m cap (expires in 2031)

I expect the results to be fairly unanimous,

Dubois, followed by Gaudreau, followed by Huberdeau
nope...not sure why Gaudreau is having issues in Columbus but he is the player that I would take before the other 2.

Huberdeau. He's still really good but needs chemistry with someone to be elite. Maybe Kuzmenko is the answer. The other two are terrible (for their price).

Plus, Huberdeau signed in a big hockey market with obsessed fans and media watching his every move. The other two purposely left that behind to go blend in with the crowd.

Gaudreau. In the right situation he can still be a PPG+ player, and he has the shortest contract length. PLD is seemingly a cancer to every single locker room he enters. Even if you can get the 60 point version of him, it's not worth it. He does have a reasonably buyout friendly contract though. Huberdeau is grossly overpaid and you can't buy him out, so you're just stuck.
