Wow your so right bro!!

That completely explains how Lemieux was still some how able to destroy the competition when he was healthy in the early 2000's at ages 35 and 37 after having not even skated seriously in 3 and 1/2 years and a decade past his peak. :help:
using points per game played over a timeframe he played less than half of the games lol

also using a time period two decades ago to try and compare to current hockey

Lemieux was dominate in the 80's, dominate in the 90's and dominate in the 00's. But let me get this straight, you think the game changed more since the early 00's than it did from the mid 80's the early 00's? Somebody only recently started watching hockey.

Today in math class... I learned that 107 is 'less than half' as much as a number like 154 🥴

He would maul. I'm not going to say 200+ but after watching Kucherov and then McDavid put up their totals I think Lemieux being a clearly (yes) superior player means he's in the 180+ range.

Realistically? 150 regularly.

This ever been proven or just anecdotal rose colored hottakes?

McDavid gets tugged and pulled on all the time without calls.

How many penalties were called per game back then?
You know there are a lot of people alive who watched it happen. The obstruction today is laughable compared to back then. Mario had guys riding on his back at times. Jagr too. Theres also plenty of clips online.

That’s why the whole size thing is still a glorified thing. Anyone who was not physically big enough to handle it had 0 chance of succeeding. Now it doesn’t matter, which is great.

I think with these things we often look at the best case scenario. McDavid topped 150 last year and Mario is better so he’d hit 180, etc. But McDavid had 123 the year before that, and Mario wasn’t always putting up points at the rates he did in 89 or 93. I think we’ve kind of lost track of how rare 150 was and maybe haven’t fully put McDavid’s ability in perspective. While I do think Lemieux is a tier above McDavid overall, I could see him in the 140 pace range in a down season and 180 point pace is probably the high end at his best.

Not really for Lemieux though. If we look at his seasons he played more than 50 games, which was 11 seasons, his pace was over 150+ points for over half of them (Years - 89, 88, 96, 93, 92, 90) (82 game pace - 215, 179, 189, 219, 168, 171)

The question is how much do we have to consider his ailments because he "only" was able to actually accomplish the feat 4 times.

That comment was about McDavid’s ability and league scoring scoring today though, not Lemieux. The “was rare” was a poor word choice on my part, but I meant more how much 150 stands out in the past 25 years. I think too many are using that season as a jumping off point in terms of “well McDavid just did 150 in this league and Lemieux is x times as good so he’ll score ____”, but McDavid isn’t hitting 150 every year, so that’s not really his baseline, and no one else has topped 130 since Lemieux in ‘96. I do think Lemieux could hit 180 today, but I don’t think that’s an every year sort of pace, just as McDavid isn’t going to pace for 150 every year.

Mario excels on the power play. Mario never had 3 v 3 OT. Yeah. This dude would hit 180 easily.

Not past 25 years. Past since the league was formed.

There's been Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman (155), McDavid (153), Esposito (152) and Gretzky's linemate (150). It's not a new occurrence, no one broke 150 points for most of the history of the league, unless you were Gretzky and Lemieux and it was a regular expectation all of a sudden.
