What teams historically have went on hot streaks too little, too late before the playoffs? For instance, if the Hurricanes and Blues started their comebacks in March or something and didn't make it.

Columbus in the lockout-shortened season - our last season in the West, after having finished last overall the season prior. It got Bob his first Vezina, but the tiebreaker went in Minnesota's favor - we had the better goal differential, but they had more ROWs.

The Leafs won a bunch of games with JS Aubin in net (of all people) and went on a tear toward the end of the 2006 season but missed the playoffs. They beat BUF 7-0 and OTT 5-1 late in the season; those were two of the best teams that season.

Toronto got thumped in back to back games by Montreal in late March but from that point on, they went 9-3. Buffalo avenged the 7-0 loss by beating Toronto 6-0 in the second last game of the season which pretty much sealed their fate.

2016-17 NYI. Missed it by a point. Went on an absolute roll during the 2nd half, including winning the last 6 games of the season.

what was the coyotes record down the stretch? they seemed to be very hot. im sure they would have given the flames a run for their money especially with kuemper standing on his head.

New Jersey in one of their years. I believe it was 2010-2011?

Devils were 10-29-2 at one point in the season. OTL might not be accurate though.

They went on a 23-3-2 run. Finally got back to NHL .500 and were 6 points out of the playoffs with a game in hand on the Rangers. Here is Salmela's OT goal the game before the Devils got to .500:

Closest they got to the playoffs that season, but that run that season was so much fun to watch.

Did Ottawa make the playoffs with Hammonds godly streak? I can't remember but if they didn't then it's a good case.

Toronto had already been eliminated from playoff contention the night before when Tampa Bay had won. So that 6-0 win by Buffalo did not officially eliminate them.

The Los Angeles Kings had a record of 21-18-12 before they went on a 16-5-2 run from Feb 7 through Mar 26 in 2015. But they went 3-4-1 in their last 8 games, finishing with 95 points, which would have been enough to earn them a wild-card spot in the year prior, and the two years following. However, the 8th seed in the west (Winnipeg) had 99 points. As a result, the Kings ended up missing the playoffs after a three-year run that consisted of a Western Conference Final appearance sandwiched between two Stanley Cup wins.
