Not making "appreciably less", but Raanta imo is the better goalie, especially for a tandem (when healthy). No slight on Andersen, but Raanta has been rock solid with a pretty rare degree of consistency.

That said, I think there is only a very narrow set of parameters in which TML trades Andersen and comes out of it as a stronger team. Very good, reliable goalie.

Downgrading in goal for marginal savings doesn't sound like a good idea for a porous defensive team like the leafs

Andersen plays as many games as any starter in the league. Replacing his ice time will be real tough

OP should add Nylander to the list. Not suggesting a trade; just pointing out a player whose contract matches the criteria (savings of more than $7m over 4 years).

Would rather see a list with players who don’t have trade or movement clauses all things considered. It would be more realistic.

Yeah, I kinda expected. I would be very interested in either guy regardless of getting assets back (although I wouldnt pay a high price to add em...) but I think LA will hold onto them, as you said
i don't see brown or quick being traded However what kinda offer would u make for carter

I don't know if it is likely that Ottawa would take on salary to improve the team, either directly or through a sweetner. As Sens fans explained, hitting the cap floor shouldn't be a big issue. Nonetheless, its probably more likely today then before the Ryan buy-out, so not surprising there is increased speculation.

Assuming the owner is actually interested in improving the team and not just saving money (which is not clear) I would assume young NHL players with upside on cheap or cheapish contracts is what would interest the Sens as sweeteners - or picks but it seems like Ottawa already has alot of those.

Ottawa is gonna stock up on guys they can flip at the deadline

I believe Ottawa is at the point where they are actually trying to spend their draft picks on live NHL bodies instead of trying to accumulate more draft picks. I believe they are done with the selling, now looking to buy.

So what does the Ottawa look like now? Other than barren

Something like this, but obviously wide open for debate and further moves. Bolded would probably be in the right spot for their ability level.

Tkachuk - Anisimov - C. Brown
Duclair - Tierney - White
Formenton - Norris - Batherson
Hawryluk - L. Brown - Balcers
Paul

Chabot - Zaitsev
Wolanin - Brannstrom
Reilly - Jaros

I got the feeling that OTT will wind up with NYR 22OA in exchange for a lot of dirty asset money laundering

If Rangers get their late 1st back maybe. Only Smith would be a dump though

Hank and Staal won’t be going to Ottawa and they should keep Georgiev

So I’m thinking if Montreal retained 750 000 on alzner for each of the next two years Ottawa would have to pay alzner a total of 4.25 over the next two years . The contract against the cap would equate to 4.6 and change for each of the two years helping Ottawa get to the cap floor . Montreal would in turn return Ottawa’s 7th pick this year and there 5th pick next year . Close ?

so it’s 2.125 per year in actual salary but it’s a total of 9.3 ish against the cap for the two years .

Antti Raanta has only once played more than 33 games. He's also played the last 3 seasons on the Coyotes, where it doesn't even seem to matter who's in goal -- they end up having great numbers.

There is no upgrade in goal for the Leafs -- it's all about damage control with the flat cap and inability to resign Andersen.
Definitely some durability concerns, but ...
Number one save% (92.3%) over the past five years in goalies with over 40 games played. Number 3 over the same period for GAA. It's why we're fine trading Darcy Keumper if he gets a haul coming back. Only $2M salary obligation is probably a plus, too.
I'd prefer to keep Darcy, but if someone wants to get crazy with a first and prospect, I think we're good with Raanta and Hill for the season. Somebody probably ends up with Raanta cheap and is very, very happy.

Aside from Lunqvist, we really don't have anyone to 'launder', now that Staal is gone. Only other contract is Smith, and hes both a better player than Staal and has less of a contract impact, so no way that is exchanged for 22 OA.

Yeah I posted before Staals deal. What do you think it would cost to move Hank for a buyout so we swallow half that hit?

Montreal could even retain a bit here as well . I think a happy medium could be found between the two here . If we could get a stats guy to show us what an alzner buyout would look like for this year and next year , Ottawa would be able to see that yes Montreal benefits a bit but Ottawa wins as well with a couple of their picks returned and free salary against the cap . There’s definitely a win win here for both teams

You're going to be paying us to take him. Slap a 2nd in there.

Russell is your best and cheapest option on the back end. It would cost the Sens very little to get him out of Edmonton as the Oilers have a ton of LHD knocking on the NHL door.

Will Russell waive? It is a sad comment on Chiarelli's time here where a defenseman gets signed for MORE than he should AND gets a limited NTC.

Yeah but if you compared Montreal putting him back in the minors this year and buying him out next year versus this offer for Ottawa I think you would see the benefit is not worth a second to the habs. Not even close . I do think with salary retained though that there is a happy medium where Ottawa could clearly benefit with the free salary cash and late picks returned .

Then keep him? There's no way Ottawa is going to add Alzner, and give you draft picks? Literally makes 0 sense.

I will comment on Loui eriksson’s NTC... the fact that his agent was given the green light to contact teams (to see who could be interested) is in direct correlation to him just wanting to play in the NHL. Getting the sense he’s the odd man out in Vancouver and could be sent down to Utica this season. Would almost guarantee he’d accept a trade to any other 30 teams just for a chance to play and finish out his career in the NHL.

With that said I also understand it would take something great for Senators (or any team for that matter) to take him in a deal.
