Next GM PMD. Very please with how my draft turned out. Thoughts?

I think it's a pretty good draft for the Avs. Johansen and Fitzgerald are very good prospects to add to a defensive unit that needs to be re-worked. Brown is a wildcard as far as his upside goes, but the Avs need to keep pace with the big strong teams in the West. I think Point is a reach in the third round, but never hurts to add a goalie to the prospect pool. I don't have Hagel or Bobyk in my top 225, but at that point in the draft it's all a hope and prayer anyways.

With the 192nd pick in the draft, the Islanders select

C - Kristian Reichel - HC Litvinov (Czech)

2563010_kristian-reichel-hokej-litvinov.jpg

Playing for the same program as his father Robert (HC Litvinov), Kristian made a four-game appearance with the U16 team back in 2011-12 when he was 14-years-old. He spent the entire 2012-13 season with HC Litvinov U16, then split 2013-14 between their U16 and U18 teams. He also represented the Czech National U16 squad, posting eight points in 13 games.

He spent most of last season with HC Litvinov’s U18 team, but saw a short-stint with the U20 team. Kristian wore the “A” for the Czech National U17 team, producing 19 points in 27 International games.

Kristian looks smaller than his 6’0 frame because he’s only 154lbs. Once he fills out, and puts on some extra weight, this crafty center will garner more attention from scouts. This is a prospect to watch over the next couple of years to see how he plays on the International stage at future World Juniors.

the picks suck because it's the Avs!

I can't really say much about them.

Give me a run down. Moar run downs.

Thanks for the replies. I think it's a potential home run draft for the Avs. They get a huge center that teams covet. Brown might be a project but if he turns out, his stick will only rise and he's a guy on the up and up. Kelowna churns out defenceman like candy and Johansen seems to be the latest, he also has the bloodlines. He's a player that has been steadily rising all year. Point is a massive riser and seems to have the right mental state to be a pro goaltender. Fitzgerald has the bloodlines and could be a real steal that late in the draft. Hagel and Bobyk are both on a team that's competing for the memorial cup and guys that do anything to win are worth a flyer on IMO.

^ Impressive, what a crew of GMs. Count me in for another mock pre-draft if it happens. Would be happy to switch teams to keep things interesting.

If he was only 3 inches taller he'd have been the first goalie off the board. Fantastic athleticism, good compete. Great pick in the last round.

With the 199th pick, Tampa selects, from Frolunda HC of the SHL, Linus Weissbach

weissbach_ep_press.jpg

:bolts
1 (19) Julien Gauthier RW 6'4" 225 lbs. (Val-d'Or, QMJHL)
-A lot is said about his limitations in terms of consistency and pick distribution but the fact remains he can put the puck in the net. This is valuable to any team, especially one with the potential to lose a lot of goals this summer depending on how free agency works out. I was also impressed with his mobility and physicality at the WJCs.

2 (44) Jordan Kyrou C 6'0" 179 lbs. (Sarnia, OHL)
-Only scratching the surface of his potential. Seems to be a center with a wide range of skills that can contribute even when not scoring. Very impressive at the u18s.

2 (49) Dennis Cholowski LD 6'1" 165 lbs. (Chilliwack, BCHL)
-Excellent skating and raw skills. In the middle of a significant growth spurt, but even now shows an impressive all around game. Has been rocketing up the scouting lists since the winter. Potentially tremendous value at this position.

3 (79) Zach Sawchenko G 6'1" 179 lbs. (Moose Jaw, WHL)
-While TB has good goaltending depth at the Pro level, they lack any real junior prospects in the system at this position. I've been impressed with Sawchenko's athleticism and ability to take away the bottom of the net each time I've watched him. Put up very good numbers while often facing a ton of shots. Hoping in real life this is someone the Oilers look at with one of their picks at the bottom half of the 3rd.

4 (109) Maxime Fortier C/RW 5'10" 176 lbs. (Halifax, QMJHL)
-Happy to get Fortier at this spot, even if I was hoping for Filip Berglund and then Sambrook before they were taken (both great picks in this round, though unfortunately not by me). Fits the mold of a TB player with great speed, skill and finishing ability. Carried the Moosehead offense once Meier was traded and put up similar numbers to Laberge. Could very well be underrated in both this and the real draft.

5 (139) Dylan Coghlan RD 6'3" 187 lbs. (Tri-City, WHL)
-Smooth skating rugged Dman, working on improving transition game.

6 (169) Ondrej Najman C 6'1" 187 lbs. (HC Dukla Jihlava, Czech U20)
-Very strong junior league and u18 numbers reflecting a poor man's Tomas Hertl, happy to take a flier on him at this point in the draft, especially after Beck "Be My" Malenstyn was picked a few spots ago.

7 (199) Linus Weissbach LW 5'9" 154 lbs. (Frolunda HC, SHL)
-Gamebreaking speed and solid J20 numbers make him a worthy flier this late in the draft. Described by Lowetide poster and Swedish prospect aficionado Swedishposter as being in the top 5 of the entire draft in terms of skating, he fits in well with the TB philosophy of speed and skill, no matter the size of the player.

With their final pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, the San Jose Sharks are pleased to select left winger Kyle Maksimovich of the Erie Otters!

A few quotes regarding Maksimovich:

The first thing that will come to mind for the fandom is the size. Admittedly, at 5’9” Maksimovich is undersized. But despite the size, he has no fear of going into the corners to battle, nor does he shy away from going to the net. He also plays with a high level of energy and hard to contain.
-Dominic Tiano (OHL Writers)
It’s not just (Nick) Betz. RW Taylor Raddysh and LW Kyle Maksimovich help carry the offensive load (for the Erie Otters.)
-Steve Kournianos (The Draft Analyst)
Kyle makes up for a lack of size with a knack for anticipating plays well, and a fearlessness that allows him to play well in traffic. His offensive game certainly has made strides this year. Now he needs to continue improving on the defensive end of the ice.
-Victor Fernandes (Erie Otters Beat Writer)

Maksimovich had a strong season for the Otters (68, 27-44-71, +25), putting up better than a point per game (very similar point totals to 2nd rounder Raddysh) while floating all over the lineup and providing a great deal of versatility. He'd have been a top 90 pick if he was just a little bit taller, but an organization like the Sharks is the perfect place for him to develop.

Final Sharks draft haul:

50th: G Evan Fitzpatrick
110th: C Otto Makinen
112th: D Ben Gleason
140th: D Ondrej Vala
170th: LW/RW Matthias From
200th: LW Kyle Maksimovich

Still have one pick left with the Caps, but thanks for the awesome draft guys! Looking forward to the breakdown thread!

I'm really interested in seeing what happens with him at the draft. Like you said his technique is great, and his ability to follow the play and track the puck is fantastic imo. He also put up better numbers than Berdin playing on the same team. But when you see a guy like Vehvilainen go undrafted last year it makes you wonder if teams even have him on there radar. Central Scouting sure doesn't seem to.

With the 201st pick the Islanders select...

D - Christian Evers (USNTDP)

457952856-christian-evers-of-the-u-s-national-under-18-gettyimages.jpg

Another quality prospect from the US developmental system. Has size and physicality and is able to handle the puck effectively on both offensive and defense. Reads the ice well and is best when he keeps his game simple and doesn’t start overextending. Handles the puck well and looks like a good long term developemental defender.
