Very impressive depth to be able to graduate as many guys as you did and still keep a list of 20 players looking as good as it does. I like the balance between drafted and traded players as well. Done well bringing in players to build the list.

Projected Lines for 2014/15

Killorn - Berglund - Skinner
Setoguchi - Anisimov - Lewis
Colbourne - Handzus* - Kassian
?? - ?? - Kennedy

Phaneuf - Sekera
Gardiner - Holden
Orlov - Wiercioch
McBain

The first of a couple changes for the Flames. Jamie McBain has been traded to Arizona. That alleviates some of the immediate logjam of defenders.

Arriving in Flames land are winger Erik Condra and goaltender prospect Kent Simpson, as well as a 5th in 2015.

Condra will become the Flames 4th left winger for the next season and now the Flames are just one forward short.

Kent Simpson was drafted in the NHL in the 2nd round. He's had an up and down few couple seasons as a pro, one that saw him play part of one period in the NHL. With good size and athleticism, Simpson needs quite a bit more development and more consistent play but he's only 22 and there is time left still.

Nic Dowd signs with Calgary

The Calgary Flames are pleased to announce the signing of Hobey Baker finalist Nic Dowd. The 6'2". 200lb forward was a senior at St. Cloud State. A 7th round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings in 2009, Dowd adds another big body player with some skill who will probably be a winger in the pro game (he was a Center in college.)

Dowd had 121 points in 154 games in the NCAA's, with a goal and 3 assists in his first 11 pro games in the AHL last season. The Captain of the Huskies plays a high energy game that should be well suited to the Kings style, and his size means he could play anywhere up and down the line-up.

Pending league approval, the Flames have added Bobby Sanguinetti. In need of some depth to cover for injuries and preferring to keep prospects on the prospect list wherever possible, the Flames added a player they've tried to add for several years but have always found the price to high. Now that his career is officially in the toilet (welcome to Canucks land...puke) the Flames added him for the 5th acquired in the McBain trade. The Flames are still excited about the talents BS does posses, his skating ability, huge shot and playmaking. If he matures and learns to defend, he could be a useful PP specialist in case of injuries in Vancouver and was worth the minor risk....

Here is a shot of Sangs in action in the KHL last season...

I like Bobby Sangs. Thought he should have stayed in NA last season after making some real strides for Carolina in their system. I think Carolina thought his skillset redundant with Ryan Murphy coming in. Somewhat similar players though Bobby has the advantage of being a bigger guy and a better hitter when he decides to be. Still butter soft but that's not his game. I think he could easily settle into a 7th spot for the Canucks with some potential to spend time on the PP. He's too strong for the AHL at this point.
