Well so much for this season. Should have been selling.

Yeah, we shouldn't have been counting on injured players to get healthy and save us. Knowing this team doesn't have a long run in it without the injured players, we really should have made sell in preparation for the draft. Holland didn't however and I have the feeling that this roster is the one we'll have next October, minus Nyquist because Sammy will be back. It's going to be fun suspecting that's Datsyuk's last year in the NHL.

IMHO we need to play Filppula as our third line center when Bertuzzi and Samuelsson come back. I have felt Val has been misused as a winger, he really does not have a goal scoring touch, moving him to third line center would give us:

Center: Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Filpulla

Wingers: Franzen, Bertuzzi, Nyquist, Samuelsson, Brunner and Cleary. Mix and match on the wing as you see fit.

It also allows Abdelkader to slide into the fourth line center, with Miller and Eaves, with Emmerton, Tootoo and Andersson as spare parts.

Anser posted the following lines for todays practice:

Henrik Zetterberg-Pavel Datsyuk-Justin Abdelkader

Gustav Nyquist-Johan Franzen-Drew Miller

Daniel Cleary-Valtteri Filppula-Damien Brunner

Cory Emmerton-Joakim Andersson-Jordin Tootoo/Patrick Eaves

I like it. This is a different look for us. Im glad to see a little "creativity" from our coaching staff, rather than the same group we have been rolling all year.

They practice today with Flip as 3rd line C.

Franzen 2nd line C.

That's actually not bad. That third line could be pretty good. Fil and Brunner are obviously a little better than just third line guys. And I'm happy to see that Cleary is not being used as a top6 anymore. I guess all honeymoons have to come to an end some time.

I probably know the answer with Flip being put at 3rd C, but any chance we get to see Ferraro play in replacement of Helm? They really play similar games and Ferraro's a PK machine in GR.

I like those lines. I think Z and D will start clicking their magic of old.

Yeah the idea is there, but quality isn't enough. It is what it is.

Zeta - Dats - "Homer" (two superstars carrying a crease-crasher-pylon)
Gus - Mule - Mills (playmaker - sniper - screener)
Dany - Flip - Nose (screener - playmaker - sniper)
cheking line

Would be perfect if we had Tatar up instead of Miller. That 2nd line is going to be week without another solid winger.

I'll be honest, my hopes were starting to flirt with winning a round or maybe gettting hot and going on a run in the playoffs. Now it's just, make the postseason. Without Helm, this team cannot compete for a cup.

We really should have traded White...and Filppula if he isn't re-signed.

It was going to end badly either way.

Pec tear for Samulsen. I strained mine in 2006 and its still not the same ...
when Kyle Quincey is the most jacked guy in your dressing room you know you need more thoroughbreds on your roster.

Should've traded him in a deal for Nash.

On a more serious note. Good job Kenny! Should've unloaded White, Cleary and Flip for picks and prospects at the deadline.

So we LTIR him with Bert and by him out when he's healthy? As I stated, at this point he's sunk cost. Wish he could have stayed healthy... Shame I couldn't see him when he was playing well. Oh well.

I've been flamed for saying this in the past, but at what point do you start to seriously consider trading Helm? I know a lot of his Injuries have been flukey, but If he get another one of these I'd rather just trade for a more stable assets rather than keep an unknown and peg hopes on it.

As much as I love Helm, I feel like he has very high value and is very dependent on physical attributes (i.e. his speed) which may decline a lot faster than we may expect given his injury history. Just food for thought.

I'm going to say one more injury is what it'll take for me.

You guys are all sure that he will come back! there is nothing saying he will! the specialist in New York could not find the problem. they where trying meds did not work, Injections did not work, surgery was a option untill they could not find the problem. I fear he may be done. Burt is done as well as Sammie. Kenny is loosing out on roster players that he has no control over it just sucks! I wish them well.

He did find the problem. It was a small tear.

Disagree, He holds much more value to the Wings than what they'd get for him in a trade, which IMO won't be very much at all, certainly not enough to offset his absence.
If they could get something substantial for him or if he could be a piece of a package for a true top pairing D man I'd do it but I don't see either situation happening. So I'd rather keep him and continue to hope that there's no long term damage.
