Canadian teams with NHLers are now 12-1-2 against Slovakia at Worlds, Olympics or World Cup. 8 of the wins by only one goal.

That's quite a stat.

Does anyone have a link to a rebroadcast? Or is TSN actually smartening up and playing them?

Really sucks to hear about burrows, hopefully he is okay, would be a huge loss for this team, PK specialist.

RNH looked off today, Not sure what was going on, missed a few passes had a few turnovers, I am sure he will dominate USA tho.

Tavares is downright special, He juked even me many times with some of those passes and turns. Guy is nasty.

Goaltending imo was terrible, both goals were terrible, and should not have went in.

Defense overall was solid, Murrey and schenn were the only two guys who played average at best, everybody else played solid.

Okay 1st game.

I don't think TSN is rebroadcasting this one, as far as my guide says anyhow...

I know though that all the games are available on youtube here...

www.youtube.com/icehockey

Not available in Canada. :( It seems they're making it unavailable in each of the video's respective countries, as the US thread was complaining about their video being unavailable for them, but I could view it just fine.

It's good to see by the end of the game we had 3 solid lines running or set for the tourney. Getz and Pears, Benn with their big body domination will be a line that wears the opposition down while JT's line and all the finesse he has alongside Skinner and Sharp will be a perfect complimenting offensive line. O'Reilly really stepped up his game from the two exhibition outings and with Ladd/Purcell/Kane hopefully make a good depth checking line. Nuge's line with Ebs will have chances but Nuge gets powered off the puck quite easily especially downlow which really kills the flow so really hope Burrows/Kane can help in that manner. I don't know why everyone's critiziing Schenn the way they are. That's the player that he is, is it his fault that goal happened, maybe , maybe not but he made effective plays earlier in the game whether it be angling or taking the man out the play with his big body. He got in passing lanes as well throughout the game multiple times so I mean that's what you'll get from him and hopefully not too many gaffs happen. Murray was solid , kept it simple as he should and made the neccesary passes , he'll learn the nuances of position whether it's where to go on the give and go's and down low which comes with communication and all but if we can't find additional QUALITY dmen Murray is better off then a depth dman from the NHL, even if he has no experience at the adult level. Wardo's going to be better as the tourney progresses and we'll need him to be because he'll have to steal a game sooner or later but overall good showing for a first game, way better then the two previous worlds.

I hope he opened some eyes in Canada, he sure deserves it.

Yeah O'Reilly I'm hoping fills in for the Brendan Morrow role on Team Canada in the olypmics. He has that same offensive talent, he isn't as physical but he can throw a hit and he's a better two-way player than Morrow. He shows up in big games and is a pretty good leader on the Avs, one of the hardest working guys as well.

David Backes would've actually done it well too but remembered he's not Cdn.

Bad:
Luke Schenn. I never found him as bad as he is usually portrayed, but he was very bad here. He seems nervous every time the puck is near

Any one defending Schenn needs to read this then go watch him play. Schenn is super slow which is bad enough, but he also handles the puck like a grenade. That has nothing to do with his footspeed and much more to do with his hockey iq.

Look at a guy like Jake Gardiner a rookie who has more poise with the puck than Schenn ever had. I like Schenn and want him to succeed because I'm a Leafs fan, but I'm also not blind and can see the forrest for the trees.

Tell me one time in todays game when Schenn turned over / iced / screwed up with the puck? Every time he got the puck, it was either to the red line and in, or it was a pass on the tape of a flanking forward.

Jake Gardiner has way more poise with the puck, but come back to me in 3 years time after Gardiner has played his sophmore season, and after hes gone through rough streches, and I bet you he wont be the god your acting like he is. Remember when Schenn was 19 and had just finished his rookie season? It was like he could do no wrong

I don't think Jake Gardiner is god at all. I've seen him miss his defensive assignments and make reckless plays like pinching up and leaving his goalie with a 2 on 1 (Game vs Vancouver in December), but I've always seen people defend Schenn when he plays just adequately. Tell me exactly what he's doing on the 2nd goal other than completely screening the goalie and in no position to block the shot. Watch as this tournament goes on he will be the clear weak link in the Canada D and I wouldn't be surprised if he's not a Leaf next year. Schenn has clearly regressed since his rookie year, whether you want to attribute that to his weight gain or poor development I don't know, but you always expect more out of a top 5 draft pick.

After watching the first two periods I've come to the conclusion that the post > Canada.

I thought Burrows was finally developing a rhythm with the Oilers and they had some good shifts and then he got injured. I hope he's ok. Tough to see him like that.

Kane looked pretty good with RNH and Eberle as well.
Getzlaf, Perry and Benn could be unreal in a couple of games with chemistry.

I thought Murray looked better than Phaneuf.

That Getzlaf assist on Benn's goal was an absolute beauty.

Schenn was fine today, although I share your concern about his footspeed, especially on big ice.

Schenn could have taken control of the puck and stopped Slovakia's puck control down low, preventing the second goal. At one point it went right to him, and he either completely missed it or gave it right back to them... can't remember.

Eberle with a goal? I am shocked. Shocked!! :sarcasm:

Leave the new Captain Canada off an international team at your own peril.

Kevin Lowe ruins everything he touches.

Can you elaborate? As a player he won 6 cups, as a GM he took the Oilers to game 7 of the SCF, and he was involved in the 2002 and 2010 Olympics teams as well. Sure he isn't perfect, but then who is? There must be some reason the people at Hockey Canada keep him around.

Also, this current WHC team has won all their games so far, so I am not sure what brought this statement on.
