Then and there
2.BL all time leading goalscorer (177) Simon Terodde will retire at the end of season. Bit odd that he never managed to transfer his goalscoring ability better to 1.BL level, where scored only 15.

fun that "too good for the 2nd div not good enough for the 1st div" strikers are a thing in all leagues and not just the PL and the Champ.

HSV yet again not going up after they lose to Paderborn and are out of the promotion race. Quite the humiliation considering that St. Pauli very likely will go up as does Kiel.

In the third league RWE suffered the same fate, that feels a bit more like a bummer.

No fight in Union as they blow a two-goal lead against Köln after a 87' equalizer and a 90'+3 winning goal. Will be quite the final day again.

Schlotterbeck the only Dortmund players to stay in the starting lineup from PSG. Here's hoping they can help Köln stay up.

Meyer has always been a great backup to Kobel, but that was... not great. Horrible coverage by Morey on the first goal too.

Mainz has had some struggles closing out results, so we'll see if they can keep this one up, though they have a lot more to play for than Dortmund in this one.

Oh wow, there's 3.

This isn't close to their A team but still, getting battered by Mainz after beating PSG twice is peak 2023-24 Dortmund.

As always, BVB remains BVB. Not very sporty! Will the fan friendship with Cologne continue?

Although I had little faith in them winning the match, it was a hard fought win for Köln that sent the home crowd home happy for a couple of hours until that Mainz-Dortmund match.

But the cold truth remains, that most likely the win only delays the inevitable relegation for Köln until the final matchday. Of course for Union it was much more crushing result, but they will still have a chance in the play-off.

Imagine Union Berlin wondering what has happened over the season, starting the season playing in the CL and ending it threatened with relegation.

Also, there isn't much left of the side that was promoted those years ago, is current captain Tremmel the only one left from those players? So if they end up going down, it will a whole new and different type of challenge to be promoted back.

Don't remember ever seeing something like that. Passing from a goal kick straight at opponent to freely score into open net.

In some other leagues one might even think some betting corruption being involved, but he made some decent saves later in the match.

Heidenheim away is also not the worst possible final day for Köln, the rest depends on Union and Freiburg.

Yeah, Mainz clearly benefited playing Dortmund at this stage of the season and straight after the CL match. But they were horribly lifeless.

Too bad for other teams who could have used help from Dortmund for putting up the fight, but you never know what happens regarding the schedule and type of performance you get from teams late in the campaign.

Sometimes they're fighting for the title, for place in Europe or against relegation, but mathematically it will always be certain that several midtable teams will have nothing to play for other than pride.

The AfD's success* is a lot more complicated. They're going to get plenty votes from people who are disgusted by the kind of thugs that go to football matches to start fights because of the feeling of disaffection that's festered as a result of the east still lagging behind the west and often being treated like a cultural punching bag / backwater.

Don't get me wrong, I hate that it's happening, but the people voting for them aren't all doing it because they go to the Nazi-bar in town & support BFC.

*which might not be as bad as feared given that they've dropped in the latest polls and that last cycle, they were polling much better than they eventually did this far away from the election.
It's not unique ex-GDR thing. Back in the day the Frankfurt Adler front or the Dortmund Borussen front were ultra rights.
Today we recognize Hansa, the dynamos, lok and many others are ultra-rights (not all of them, but many)
