I don't buy the system excuse. Sutter said point blank a couple games ago when Stoll scored that "when you go to the middle of the ice and drive to the net, good things happen, and Stoll was rewarded".

Explain that.

Well then blame Dean, don't blame the lockout or the cap.

And to answer your question 7824, there are always veterans capable of filling in bottom line roles that are available for less than what Stoll got that summer.

Or like I said, give him a chance to earn a better payday and offer him 1 year. They had cap space in 2013 to afford his salary, they don't right now and it's going to hurt the teams chances to add at the deadline.

Offering Stoll a one year deal after the way he played most of his career as a King and especially that season would not have been a slap in the face or an insult, Stoll is a pro, he knows the way things work. Hell if the Kings hadn't won that season he may not have gotten any offer after the way he played in 2012.

I never blamed either one.

This team needs to sack up, pull their head out of their ****ing ass, and drive to the net. Defense needs to play like they have all season too. Pathetic game tonight.

I was firmly on the "bring on Moulson" train for a while.

Now I'm firmly on the "get Doughty a partner at nearly any cost" train.

Figures we finally put up three and get blown up

Obviously we'll beat the Ducks like 4-0 or some ****.

Why not offer him the same contract Penner was offered?

They were both coming off multiple horrendous seasons with the Kings, but in an attempt to keep the team together they offered Penner 1 year at $3 mill with a chance to prove himself and earn a long term deal. He went back to sucking the next season and the Kings moved on.

Why wasn't the same type of deal offered to Stoll?

Because there was no other FA center who could do what Stoll does as effectively. Just look who was available at the time. The guy kills penalties and wins faces off which carries more value than just putting up points. Penner you could easily say is a one demensional forward, and was damn near invisible for long stretches for a guy who's suppose to score. Too many teams need centers and I think that's why we saw DL over paying him to keep him. If the Kings offered him a 1 year deal, he'd have sign probably in ANA for the same amount he signed in LA. Just my 2cents.

Also, I LOVED CBJs forecheck, very 2012 Kings ish. We look slow to that these days, wonder how much they're saving for later.

I'd like to be an optimist and pretend we are hiding our playbook but Sutter doesn't strike me as that sort of guy.

They look tired. A step slow, out of sync, can't score.

Yeah, I don't want to downplay the fatigue because they sucked BEFORE the road trip, but this one certainly isn't going to help.

7 games in 11 nights starting from the DET game, 8 in 13 when we're done in PHX on the 28th--only one 'home' game that is the Dodger Stadium game, and a road trip from STL thru DET, BOS, CBJ before coming back to the Pacific. All good teams, and brutal travel, times, and, so far, bounces.

Good teams take care of business for sure--but these guys are human too.

As a side note Doughty gets a semi-pass because skating with stitches is a *****. Props to him for going and trying to take the game over anyway.

This is getting overlooked too much.

That is a myth as well, this core has proved over 32 game strerch (March+Cup run)they can play up tempo and carry the puck into zones with speed.

Its up to players to maintain that play.

They proved it in 2012. They may not have that gear anymore.

It would be nice if the Kings were coasting for the playoffs, but at this point it's too early to do that, and I doubt it.

Winning faceoffs/killing penalties and putting up points are not mutually exclusive. If someone is going to get paid 3+ million a year they better be able to contribute offensively in some ways. Stoll's stretches of going AWOL offensively are very well known, and when he goes on those, he is essentially a $3.5 mill a year penalty killer and faceoff specialist because he doesn't score and his ES defensive play leaves a lot to be desired.

And if he didn't want to sign for one year and left for the Ducks, so be it, he is their problem at $10 million over three years, not ours. Tough decisions have to sometimes be made when it comes to fitting in the right player to the right cap slot, the Kings are getting terrible value for what they pay Stoll. But he is not alone this season, many players are not living up to their contracts.

Nick Nickson was saying tonight that the CBJ have scored 3 goals in 6 games in a row. Make that 7.

Gee, what's it like to have a consistent (ANY!!) offense?
