In 1934, the Montreal Canadiens made a deal with the Red Wings of Detroit. It wasn't your normal deal, as Detroit sent Montreal 4 free goals in exchange for 5 future goals at any given time.
Montreal accepted, but their GM Marc Pergevin used the 4 free goals against Detroit in a game they were losing 7-1 with only 15 seconds left.
When Pergevin was asked "why?" He responded with " uhhh we wanted it to seem like the game was closer than it was"
Now, 90 years later Detroit is using their 5 goals to go up 6-3.
