People are shocked and angry that the Rangers aren't ready to win the Cup, yet before the season they all knew that was the case. This was the season to become a playoff team. Next season, becoming a true Cup contender becomes a reasonable possibility.
That’s completely missing the point I think

For us to become true cup contenders we need growth from laf and kakko

That won’t happen when laf is playing under 14 minutes a night

No. That's when you take a look at a player in his 1st game.
If that’s how you truly feel then why was laf dropped and Strome not? Vatrano was dropped to the third line and goodrow moved to play with panarin and Strome…how is that getting a look at who you got? Motte is a 4th line energy player. The ONLY guy you can justify moving up the lineup is Copp and truthfully the move would have been to put Copp at center between Strome and panarin but that’s not what happened

And getting benched for doing nothing wrong. But its a problem with the way this team was built. They wanted it both ways - vets and young talent at the same time. Doesn't work like that.

People are talking about the first but until that PP specialist's turnover they were dominating the second more than the first. It wasn't obvious because they weren't getting pucks on net but they lived in their zone and the Devils had nothing.
That's a play Foxy has made 100x this year, okay so 1 time he gets burned.
changed momentum, gave them life etc. etc.
Yes, that was huge, but happens. what I DIDN'T see, was anything close to physical play from the 2nd period on. NO, ABSOLUTELY NO, slowing them down. GG cannot be oblivious to that. Team need to realize that is what it takes when a team is faster than you are. "IF" we were physical when we needed to, they would have been toast.
What a shame, really could've been within striking distance of Carolina, Pittsburgh up next, and cannot play like that. End this 2 game trend.

Teams usually win Cups with exactly what you don't like; a combo of vets and young talent.

I understand that coaching can't turn Kakko and Laf into studs. They either will or they won't. Management and coaching has nothing to do with that. It always falls on the player.

If Kakko isn't a really good offensive asset by next season, you have to wonder whether he will ever be. I still think Laf will be much improved next season. Not sure if that's enough to make them a true contender, but next season is when their window is supposed to open according to natural progression of youth.

I'm very happy with their D and G going forward. The O remains a question mark.

The Devils skated circles around them, hard to hit that.

Somewhat ironic that both of Dolan’s teams have coaches that when things go wrong, the first instinct is to just bench the young players lol

Although I guess this is common among many teams and sports, but funny none the less

The problem is that it was a carbon copy of what happened two nights earlier in Carolina. Except the goaltender performance.
Well, I woke up, so that was good. But last night's game still happened, so that sucked. And yeah that should be a wakeup call that you better not count on the goalie every night. I guess this gives Gallant the freedom to rearrange the lines however he wants them. But I'm sure we'll get the usual vet favored, best pal pairings.

This wakeup call should have came in November. It's too late at this point.

Path of least resistance.

He wouldn't have the balls to bench Fox, Strome or Panarin

Drury should have 'strongly suggested' keeping Martin to Gallant.

We do nothing well 5v5.

our d-zone coverage? :thumbd:

Our transition?

Our Neutral Zone game?

Our O-Zone game? :(

Odd man rushes? o_O

Our special teams and Igor have been our saving grace. Fox and Panarin have deteriorated and our now playing their worst hockey in this uniform at 5v5.

THERE'S A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. We know what the players/team is capable of. We've seen all aspects of the game work at different times. We've seen them defend well. We've seen them create 5v5. We've seen them have strong special teams. It's doable.

You should be banned for this post.

From the internet, not just this site.

And investigated by the FBI.

Maybe even audited by the IRS.

That's why we have all those Cup wins...right?

It's still early. Very early. But if after a few years it's become more than apparent that this team still has to be carried into the playoffs by their tiny little boysacks by Lundqvist 2.0, this organization needs a complete and serious detox of everything.

Its. The. Coach. And not the goaltending coach.
