Oh, the dreaded B2B afternoon games on Super Bowl Weekend are back! But, some of us will still be watching because -- reasons, apparently.
Habs were in Washington on Tuesday, beating the Caps 5-2. This was their first game following a 9-game hiatus post-AS game.
Several players chose to head for warmer climes during the break, which begat its lot of Cringe Warp Factor 9 social media postings. Who wouldn't want to forget whatever it was Dvorak thought he was doing?
There was some personnel movement during the break, the most notable saw Hughes expertly gain a first rounder in this summer's draft (plus a conditional 3rd) for trading the beloved Moneyhands to the Peg on February 2nd.
Sure was tough to see Monahan go, but Hughes managed to do it while Monahan was healthy, after having already obtained another first rounder for him. And for this, we can't help but remain in awe ...
And even though we wished Monahan the best, some of us didn't exactly hope for the Peg to be doing too well ... and they haven't, as they've lost their first two games with Monahan on board, 0-3 and 1-4. Which prompted some HF Forum theories about how Monahan is really a saboteur and secret agent for the team and teammates he loves and remains so fond of ...
One of the fallouts of Monahan leaving was the likes of Tanner Pearson appearing on the Habs 1st PP wave. Inevitably, he was not in fine form and posters let him have it. Ultimately, there's only so much lipstick one can put on a pig as we imagine Hughes scrambling to sell him off by the trading deadline.
Thank goodness the Habs already got paid a 3rd rounder for taking on Pearson's expiring contract.
Monahan now off the books, Hughes rewarded the efforts of the speedy 26-year old Brandon Gignac, 5th in AHL scoring, with a 2-year deal. Gignac entered the lineup as a center vs. Washington, playing 14:54 minutes.
The Caps match-up also marked a 10th consecutive game where Cole Caufield had posted at least one point. This time, it came from a primary assist to his usual partner in crime, Nick Suzuki. Always nice to see the Dynamic Duo reconnect.
Not to be outdone was Slaf, who with Suzuki, combined to score 4 goals in the Caps game. We have seen Slaf put in lots of extra work at practice and it hasn't gone unnoticed as he continues to thrive.
In this afternoon's game, we have an earlier than anticipated return to the lineup by Alex Newhook, which caused Lucas Condotta to be loaned back to the Rocket. We understand that @sheed36 was instrumental in helping Newhook with his rehab.
And last but not least, it was once again quite predictable to see Bell Media go all out on its "Bell Let's Talk" end of January campaign in support of mental health, only to see them consolidate and slash personnel across the country, a few days after said campaign had been over.
We don't like to see anyone lose their job, so we asked @dinodebino, an experienced media specialist, what he might recommend for those having suffered job cuts. And of course, Dino came back with ...
But Dino, these people are in no position to spend money now that they are without a job!
