Rublev in big trouble, dropping the first two sets 7-6, 7-6, and losing 5-2 in the third to Querrey. Both players have been excellent to this point.

Amazing fact;

Rafa's record at Roland Garros: 93-2.

Already Zverev, Isner and Paire are the only seeds left in Rafa's quarter of the draw.

Nadal's dominance at the French is unparalleled in sports history. It's not just that he wins all the time, he rarely loses sets.
The only losses were in wet conditions against Soderling (he would have won otherwise) and against Djokovic when I believe he wasn't 100%. I don't think we'll ever see dominance like this in sports again.

I always laugh when somebody says this is the year he might lose. Yeah ok, I'll believe it when I see it.

Always a nervous closer, Qierrey can't serve it out and Rublev comes back from the dead 7-5.

Winner/Unforced error ratio for match

Querrey: 65/35
Rublev: 43/16

Rublev takes the 4th set without fuss, 6-4

He's my dark horse pick to get to at least the quarters, so i'm hoping this continues.

Hell of a comeback for Rublev. Whether he needed a marathon five set first-round match after winning Hamburg three days ago is another question, but I'm sure he will take it.

So Rublev and Tsitsipas both had problems after playing deep at Hamburg. You wonder if Svitolina is next on that list

If he loses it, this set is going to give Gilles nightmares tonight.

...and now it looks like he will.

...and he does.

Tsitsipas, who has been showing Zverev tendencies in big matches lately, is broken for 3-all in the fourth. If Munar can keep the ball in play this could get interesting.

The word for Bautista-Agut is "fastidious." I'll bet he neatly folds his underwear out of the dryer.

Simon takes the third set. Given Denis' recent improvement, including on clay, Simon's age and style of play, and the way the courts have been playing, this match is closer than I thought it would be. Great clay workout for Shapo assuming he wins.

in the fourth set, Gillles is making Denis work for every point, but Shapo has responded with relaxed, patient, smart clay court tennis.

...broken by Simon at 5-2, Denis calmly breaks right back for the match.

That was a very impressive performance on clay by Shapovalov. Still way too many errors, but that seems to be his game now and he knows how to survive them.

2015 Nadal was awful and 2015 Djokovic was one of the greatest seasons ever. So that's what it took for someone to beat the Spainard besides that ridiculous win by Soderling all those years ago

To extrapolate a Jim Morrison line: I think Serena's ballroom days are over.
Best chance was probably against Andreescu but we all know what happened there. Maybe Osaka before that.

Uninspiring, dreary day in Paris with uninspiring, dreary tennis to match.

Not counting Genie.

Well, Zverev/Herbert is oddly entertaining, though it has more to do with Zverev possibly losing than with the match itself.

That Errani / Bertens game was apparently something, though it was more of a trainwreck that wouldn't stop.

Gauff loses the second set to plucky Trevison, 6-2. Second-serve mechanics (12 double faults so far) neutralized a lot of good play. Gauff"s long-backswing forehand benefits from a slower surface and her graceful athleticism is a joy to behold. But she has her hands full right now.

Quite the drama at the end lol
