Yes, but considering most of our prospect pool project to be depth players. It doesn't really make sense to pay more expensive depth guys, when the need is top 6

I'd agree, but I don't see any forward prospect who is ready enough that they could fill the role that someone like Marleau or Hartnell could.

Really happy to have him back.

Edit: Yakupov talk wasn't relevant.

Getting awfully crowded up front. One year was the right choice though; two would have been a huge mistake.

Bye bye Chiasson. Does this also mean Treliving won't be targetting a top 6 RW now? Or maybe there is a move coming?

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Frolik - Backlund - Brouwer
Tkachuk - Bennett - Versteeg
Stajan - Jankowski - Lazar
Bouma

Virtually the same forward roster as last year. Difference is Chiasson out, Janks in.

Treliving has been on a roll this past week. Lineup's looking pretty slick. Versteeg brings some much needed creativity to the forward ranks so I'm happy to see him back and at what appears to be a discount of sorts.

One thing I find kind of funny...

Last offseason, Calgary was apparently rumored to be after Russell again. Instead, they snagged Versteeg out from Edmonton. The Oilers then signed Russell. Russell got an extension at 4x4, Versteeg got 1x1.75.

Part of me wonders if Versteeg is only an NHL player right now due to Treliving's propensity for trolling Edmonton.

I'm okay with this. I know it was wishful thinking, but if he was gonna come back I wanted him at the same contract as last year  No way I wanted him back for a multi-year contract though.

So far so good. A few empty slots to fill but at this point I trust Brad to bring in the right guys.

Versteeg was probably our best player in the postseason, behind Monahan. He was just on another level entirely

Why are Tkachuk and Frolik both swapped to their off wing?

Really happy to have him back. Sure he vanished at times, but if he didn't he would be a legit top six winger, and we wouldn't be getting him so cheap.

I really like management having guys that WANT to be here.
